About time Subaru switched to timing chains. Timing belts are an unnecessary hassle. Even Ducati finally figured it out and switched to chains for their latest 1199 Panigale. They actually wanted us to replace the timing belts every 2 years regardless of mileage.

The reality is most of you would not know how to handle 200hp rwd anyways. Take the brz to a track and first keep it on the track, then tell me you need more power. Im certain you will love the car if the way it is. Then if you get good at it add/free up 40hp and you will have to relearn again. Most of you with big turbos and clumsy feet have broken countless cars, then you turn around and call the vehicle a piece of crap. What you NEED is to go to a proper driving or racing school and learn how to use a car correctly and then practice for a long while. Then you will be able to enjoy the car the way it was intended to be.
Why would they want to build a car that would compete with another model and split their customers up. This is a smart company that is going after other manufactures market place. So please drive one before you start yelling turbo, you will probably be very surprised. |

scoobyru00 is right, but I'm banking on a lot of quarter mile obsessed americans to make some sort of 600 whp monster that spins out as soon as it hits boost.
I don't know why there's such a friggin' schism in this community over this car. They set out to make a SIMPLE sports car with throwbacks to their sportscars of yesteryear. Simple means no turbo, no AWD and no fancy ass traction controls. And they did it. They did it really well. They never promised a 350whp 2 door awd car at any point in time. And I don't know why anyone is faulting them for not doing that. Want a 300awhp track car? Buy an STI and call it a day. I love that this is a huge break away from what subaru currently has, and it's definitely not sacriledge, considering the reviews of how it is as a performance vehicle. ALSO. You buttholes (Turns out I can't swear) will drop an STI in it, anyway, since the mounts are the same ![]() |

I would like to pause everyone for a moment... in 1983 the biggest baddest Pontiac Firebird Trans am with the "high output" 305, had a whopping 170 hp. 230 lb-ft of torque ish. Car weighed 3500 lbs... So 200 hp and 2700 lbs would actually be a very fun car to drive. No it's not an elise, no it's not a 600 hp zo6, no its not a WRX STI... But on an auto cross course, or a track day it could be pretty serious fun! Maybe I'm getting old, but I prefer to have to work the car a little... What good is 600 hp if it only leaves black marks everyewhere? What good is 350 hp if you can only weasel out 20 mpg? the BRZ is supposed to be a fun, efficient, car. And I think it hits all those marks!

it kinda looks like a porsche. it'll probably weigh in the neighborhood of 2800lbs. i'd grab one after the supply and demand shock wears off, and people start making parts for them. the sti version i'm going to assume will be in the high 30's, low 40's when they first hit the streets fore sure.

How?
Subaru has been selling FWD versions of their cars in other markets for YEARS (since the GC impreza straight to the GH/GR).....even to present day. (yes, Japan has/had a 1.5 GD impreza that was FWD only. They also have a similar 1.5L GH Impreza sold in FWD trim now). So FWD is not a sellout, but RWD IS? |

I'm confused. Why were the front wheels spinning when it was on the dyno on a rwd car?

I watched someone give a little push on the roof to see how much wobble it had. It's a firm suspension! MX-5 with Bilstein's watch out! MX-5 without Bilstein's just move over, lol. It's going to be a huge hit on the track! Last edited by Zach9734; 03-16-2012 at 05:35 PM. |

when people talk of an underpowered sporty car the lancer comes to mind.. (not the evo which would be our sti version if they ever do one), but the base es etc. That car is serverly underpowered.

I just sold my 2600lb./170bhp./(intake and exhaust mods.) RX7 which did not feel under powered with 15 pounds to pull per horsepower.
The BRZ will have 14 pounds per hp. so it too should go zoom-zoom! The hatchback design gives some cargo capacity and the low center of gravity will make for good handling. ![]() |
