Get me 230hp with no turbo on that motor. I'll be impressed.

I agree. screw the turbo business. It's been done on the STI. this one needs to be its own car. Not turbo, 245 hp on a boxer 2liter 4cyl engine.

Get that done and you'll turn some heads... you'll also have bragging rights if you own one.

S2000's are fun cars in the twisties...but they are gutless until 6000rpms and slower than my stage II wagon until about 110mph.

at work in a parking lot full of mustangs, vettes and s2000's it makes me smile when co-workers make comments like "mustangs are real sports cars" or "what kinda car is that?"

This car just doesn't capture that feeling for me. I'm sure a few people will be all over it but with so many sporty, rear wheel drive coupes out there in the market it just seems like a waste to me.

Had it not looked like a G35, been all wheel drive and of course boosted with a more rally style suspension then I would have been first in line. I just have this ugly feeling that a bunch of teens are gonna give subies a bad name as this car takes center stage for ass-hat peel outs and wanna be drifting at local super markets. Please Subaru I beg you don't lose focus of the rally heritage... I plan on buying a 2014 Sti and with evo out of the picture for now I may only have Audi too look foward to.
5 friends have showed interest in this car that hate rally and subaru. This bothers me.

Just my .02 no offense to anyone ...

typed on my phone so excuse spelling and all
I have to disagree. Subaru is not replacing this car with any of their current lineups. I think it's great they are stepping into the RWD world. We arent really spoiled for choice especially in the 'lightweight' department.

S2000s are a dime a dozen and miatas are just plain ugly (Sorry). I am looking forward to having a cheap(ish) track car to run when I am done University.

Not sure why you would want it to stay N/A. Having a turbo'd version would open up huge possiblities for aftermarket tuning. With N/A you will always be limited untill you decide to go with the forced induction route which we all know costs $$$.

I don't know about you guys but I am already dreaming of owning a STI version (in yellow as can be seen in the BRZ phoshop thread ) with 260-280whp and full suspension for a track/autox monster

They should exaggerate the fender flares more (for the Subi version), add a turbo, wider tires, maybe another 2 doors ( ), and some STi parts and we've got a deal.

I, for one, like the new styling. Subaru has been disappointing me in the style department lately. The front end finally looks mildly pissed off... which is required in a sports car IMO. I also like the fact that all models are getting a 6-speed, and the automatic (which I'll never buy again) has finally caught up with the times with a 6-speed and paddle shifters. The gauge cluster needs some STi love, and I definitely miss the tell tale hood scoop that sings Subaru in my head.

I like how some people think the BRZ isn't light enough, yet others want to add weight through tires, wheels, wider frame or suspension components, wider overall car, turbo, intercooler, exhaust and fluids. I think a lot of people out there missed the point of this car. They may make the changes you want to see, but not right away. They need to see what kind of market it will bring before they make a higher dollar trim/model. That would be my best guess...

Though, you have respectable comments on style. But, a lot of people love the new styling. That's half the reason I traded in my 05. I have a firm belief that 50% of all styling criticts are not in the market for a new car anyway.

I love this car! Except the lack of a turbo at this point. But I think it looks great.

The future of the BRZ from Box This standpoint.

First year cars will be decent, fun, but most of us want a turbo so 60% of potential buyers will wait for the 1.6 turbo BRZ STI. The other 40% will impulsively buy the NA version and regret it a year or two from now.

Second year will likely include the option for a turbo model once the first years vehicles have been road tested, and gone through the rigors of every day public driving them under less than ideal conditions.

The turbo 1.6L was designed to fit into this car, hence why the turbocharger is mounted at the bottom of the engine to keep the low center of gravity, and not require any more space in the engine bay other than for a few simple intercooler pipes.

Third year cars will have exterior changes including but not limited to; eliminating the (ugly, useless) front fender inserts, the use of NON CHROME tail lights (what are we, 16?,) and wider front and rear fenders to accommodate wider wheels + tires for the extra 65 hp you will likely get with the forced induction. Think 265hp / 245 lb-ft or so should be reasonable to expect from a direct injection turbo even in micro 1.6l form. Intercoolers will probably be front mount units since Subaru FINALLY got it right by facing the intake FORWARDS towards incoming wind, and not to the rear of the engine bay where all the heat collects.

Am I going to buy one? Yes, as soon as the turbo model is out for my2014.

The biggest thing people need to realize is that Subaru as whole appeals to more than one niche of people. Look at their commercials, "Share the love Event" environmentally conscious people are not STI drivers. I think the introduction of this car is awesome, a new niche for Subaru.

1. Environmentally Friendly Folks
2. Rally Drivers\AWD drivers
3. People that just want a safe good car/family car
4. Rear wheel drive enthusiasts

They're smart for branching out providing more options for people and people need to keep in mind that the worst thing they can do is take this car and clone it into another STI. They have that car for a reason and now this one for a different reason.

Have fun waiting. Those applying the rs->wrx->sti logic are going to be left out in the cold. volume isn't going to be there to dictate too many trim levels especially considering this car will be spread across two(three) brands as it is. Plus it will eat away from wrx/sti sales. Also I'm not saying this car doesn't need more power, just not from a turbo. Boost bubble anyone?

I guess what I really want to see is the new WRX STI. This car is a nice little RWD car, but it just doesn't feel like a Subaru to me. Also, I'm admittedly irked by the fact there will be toyotas on the road that look the same. I would love to see Subaru apply these new styling concepts to a sedan/hatch complete with a turbocharged 2.0L. The mixture of practicality and brawn is what attracted me to Subaru in the first place.

Simple, cost. This vehicle was made in conjunction with Toyota... Odds are Toyota wanted Subaru's low CG boxer motor/drivetrain and Subaru wanted Toyota's chassis and RWD plateform but neither wanted to pay 100% of it on their own as its future is uncertain for the market.... for example the only car off the top of my head i can say is a true competitor is the genius coupe which isnt selling like hotcakes.

You really need to put yourself in the shoes of the automakers, its not easy introducing new vehicles in the market. Thie vehicle is all about driving dynamics.. something the american customer for the most part doesn't understand, we Americans always want HP no matter what, I think many domestics show a good example of that, and Honda shows the puriest example of vise versa. Over the years it has been starting to change I do admit.
Also, this vehicle needs to be fuel efficient and low cost... once there is enough interest their will be higher power models guaranteed.... but they can't be released first.

Turbos are fun and all. I miss throwing a cars ass out and spinning the rear tires when I wanted. My wrx is fun.... But, this car is what will save me from buying an S2000
