Default 2005 subaru impreza stereo vs. STI stereo

Hi All, my friend has an '05 impreza and the speakers are atrocious.

sometimes aftermarket speakers won't fit w' out some fabbing, and I'd have to spend over $50 and get some harnesses

on the other hand, a quick fleabay search shows the STI had components - are those a direct plug-and-play application in the impreza? how do the tweeters hook up, and are they any better than the OEM impreza speakers? in fleabay pics, the OEM impreza speaker looks like a ****ty dual-cone paper whizzer thing...while the STI speaker looks like a dedicated midbass...if I can just swap everything for $30, this might be a good option for me

If you want to go aftermarket the speakers up front are 3 hole for some reason and you will have to make brackets to convert to a common 4 hole mounting pattern. The tweeters are already wired up and can simply be plugged in.

Kartboi spacers, or you can make your own for very very cheap with decent materials. Pair of speaker harness adapters for aftermarket speakers 11.99 @ Best Buy. Leaves $38 for making spacers.... Find an afternoon and make some.
