sadly i have the v1 on my hatch. the inlet to the muffler is totatlly different in the v2, much more straight through than mine. Im assuming this is where the extra bit of volume might come from.

doing a quick search on google shows you these:

V1

and the V2

The hardest part was definitely the bolts around the turbo. 2 of them are really easy ans straight forward, three of them are a little harder.

A good assortment of 14mm wrenches, sockets, 4"+6" extensions, 1/2" drive ratchet and breaker bars... Or an impact gun.

I first tried to do it without taking the intercooler off and quickly realized that the 5 minutes to take it off could have been the best move for the entire install.

If you get hung up, feel free to ask anything!

I also just got the Q300 and experience the same noise issues. It feels like pressure is building inside the car and the only thing that helps is to crack a window or the sunroof. It actually hurts my ears after a long drive.

Does anyone think lining the trunk floor with Dynamat or similar material will help?

I don't know about dynamat, but I picked up some ensolite and it helped a lot. If you aren't familiar with it, it's almost like a thin foam with adhesive. I lined the whole bottom of my trunk with it.

I may do dynamat too, either that or cut up my old egg crate mattress pad from college haha.

i don't meant to jack the OP's thread or anything but i figured you guys would know the answer to this pretty noob question, it should be pretty obvious but which way do you guys have that Invidia sticker facing on the resonator on the v2 q300?

Im getting crazy rattling/metal on metal noises under the car from the resonator hitting against the frame and I switched out to kartboy standard hangers already, it stopped the noise for a couple days but it came back and now it's getting worse by the day.

thanks.

Wrap the resonator with exhaust wrap and the problem will solved. Worked for me. I also wrapped the flex coupler.

No worries about hopping in on the thread. I actually like questions in the thread instead of a PM, that way all members get to see possible answers.
You may have tried this already but when I was lining up the exhaust, I ended up hanging the entire exhaust but left all the bolts really loose and aligned it from where the closest point of contact was. There is actually a lot of play in the exhaust if needed.
Also, do you have an Invidia Down pipe? i have a feeling that if you have the stock DP, the exhaust is actually back an inch or two farther then it would with a aftermarket DP. It should still fit perfectly fine but might need some more time with alignment.

There is no way to put the mid-pipe on wrong, the rear section would would be facing sideways if it was. I test fit mine on the ground just to be safe but you must have it on correctly in order for anything to line up.

Good luck mate,

- Jason

Yeah, that's exactly how I did it, i re-aligned with everything on but the bolts still loose again when i switched it out for the kartboy hangers. And I do have the Invidia catted downpipe.

I figured it was on right or else yeah, nothing would really line up. But the flex joint in the midpipe is angled downward and i felt that it should be angled upward cause why would invidia not use that space under the heatshield and lower the ground clearance by setting it up like that so I figured I ask the guys on here who have it which way the Invidia sticker on the resonator is facing to get an idea and to reconfirm that it is on correctly.

I don't mean to "jack" this thread, but it's related -- I've got a buddy that will sell me a Perrin Dual tip 3" (Single pipe) exhaust for my 05 STI for like 400. I'm planning on keeping my ProSport 3" belmouth dp.

I'm looking for a deep raspy sounding exhaust, without going broke. Do you guys think i'm better off with the Invidia, or should I go for the Perrin exhaust?? I've looked all over for videos of the Perrin exhaust, but haven't found too much; he says it's loud.

Cheers!

Hmmmm, I just checked on the sticker and it is facing up. They might put the sticker on different so the best way to explain is that the flex pipe is definitely sitting down or "U" shaped. I actually never noticed how low this exhaust sits... Woah!

I've heard a couple Perrin exhausts on the new wrx/sti body style and they are overall a lot louder. The Invidia is actually a super smooth strong sounding exhaust. It's has a loud tone at certain RPM inside the car but even outside at that same tone it's a smooth clean tone.
I feel the Perrin is just loud in general, has a nice gurgle but overall kind of sloppy. I had the same issues with the COBB, I wanted it so bad but its just nothing close to the sound of the invidia.

sorry man...
I actually bought the AP for the full price and before I received it they went on the 10% sale. I ended up calling Rally Sport Direct and they made me buy a new AP at the lower price and return the first AP for a full refund.

Hey Man, I shot it mostly with the Canon 5D Mark II and a whole bunch of lenses. It was edited on Final Cut Pro 7.

Thanks for watching!!

I have the sedan but I agree that nothing comes close to the q300 sound. Sounds mean but also refined at the same time.will be keeping mine forever.

Yeah i never thought bout it that way, just thought they'd prob put it in the same spot on every unit. thanks for taking time and double checking on it for me Jason! And yeah, this exhaust is low! lol

From what i've been gathering over the past couple months is yeah, the hatch tends to be worse with the droning inside the cabin. I don't know if it's been proven with an actual decibel meter but over the past week I was in a 2009 WRX 4dr and it seemed quieter at the 2500RPM under load drone.

It's totally subjective though. I love the sound but sometimes passengers think it's annoying.

I have a 2011 5 doorWRX with 25k miles on the Invidia Q300 TBE, I think it is louder now. I love the sound, inside or out.

I know it is subjective but I can positively say that it must be night and day between the too. I know what drone is, and the 2011 sedan q300 doesn't drone at all. I don't think anyone would even slightly consider it droning. I was on the fence actually when I first installed it because it was almost too quiet, and I don't like loud exhausts at all. Now that its broken in I love it and its perfect for me. I don't think even the pickiest would think the sedan drones honestly.
