Default What types of PS fluid can I use in my '08 Impreza?

I know what the manual says, but I am wondering if someone can give me a bit more insight on what types work best, what to avoid (as in, what can harm the system), or any other details.

Steering is a bit heavy, and getting some noise (especially when cold). Thinking this could be a quick, easy first pass to see if I can improve things.

Thanks!

Ken

I use

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Yes ATF. Automatic Transmission Fluid. It's rating is better than the DEXRON III Suburu calls for as a minimum.

It's red and smells bad.

I use this as well, there are a few DIY around and I recommend disconnecting the resevoir hose so you can flush it through.

OK to mix some of the old and new? Obviously the more you flush the better, but no issue mixing two different fluids?
