Default accessport tuning

Just wondering how safe the accessports are? Dont know a lot about them it came with my car. I seem to get better mpgs with it on but it jumps around a lot from 33 to 24. Also I put the 93 tune on the other day and I can tell a small power difference, a little better mpgs but it seems to run rough. Also dude I got the car from told me he uninstalled the tuner in the winter time to avoid damage to the turbo is this a good idea? The car is stock other then a spt exhaust. I have heard from some people to stay away from the accessport. Any info would be great thanks!

The AccessPORT is perfectly safe. It allows you to reflash our off-the-shelf maps (or get a custom tune from a protuner) for increased performance while retaining all the factory controls and failsafes. These tunes can be used all-year long. The concern in winter is that colder temps may cause some cars to boost higher than normal, but we have different wastegate maps for your car that you can download if this is the case. Generally, though, this is not a problem.

As with any mod that significantly increases performance, you want to make sure that your car's maintenance is up to date and that you do not have any mechanical issues. As far as the maps are concerned, you want to make sure you are using the correct map for your car (correct octane and correct "stage"). For example, you do not want to use a map that is rated for a higher octane of gas than what you are putting in the car (ex. using a 93 map when you are putting 91 octane in the car). You also want to make sure you do not have mods (such as an intake) that are not supported by the map. You can find these details in the map notes in our map repositiory:
