96Lconversion,

Below is one of the pics from this past weekend.

decibel_dj,

The article, "4.play" in the June issue of Import Tuner, yup, it reads like it's a Cobb Tuning car, but it' actually my personal "daily driver" WRX, that's me you see in it at the track, and I'm the one who's paid for all the work to get done to my car! For some reason, the writer and the magazine did not "mention" the fact that it's a normal car owned by a normal person!

This past weekend I was 2nd Place Subaru Class and Best Display Overall Show. Two real nice trophies, with the BF Goodrich and NHRA drag racing series logo and such. Greg Lilly won 1st Place in Subaru Class, he did a great job in preparation. On my "Best Display Overall Show" award, I think it was the track theme that carried the day (I had my driving suit, helmet, gloves, shoes, some special track tools and such, on "display" inside the car). Plus it probably helped that I put the Import Tuner article on the stand, along with a pretty comprehensive display board listing most of the mods.

Ok, I have that issue, I remember your car. Very sharp, nice and clean, just the way I like them! I think I remember that article saying that beast does 0-60 in 4.3? seconds? Is that right? That is friggin quick!!! Thats 911 turbo territory!!

GF, congrats on an incredible car.

How is your front mount working out?? I've been looking at getting one, I really like the fact that you don't have to cut the beams.

I'm sorry but show trophies dont seem like the kind of "proven" power this forum is about. Dyno #'s and Track Times here.

I am b,

Thanks. The FMIC has been great. I still have some concerns to address regarding heat in the engine compartment. Even though I put the Aqua hood vent in place (to extract heat), I'm thinking I'll probably want to upgrade the radiator, as well as put a comprehensive aux oil cooler setup in place. I do miss the foglights, but at the time I upgraded the turbo and intercooler last year, this was the best setup available. And, all things considered, I'd still go with the APS / Cobb Tuning RT Spec system, given how well everything works together, and the fact that it's been so reliable.

Romanikque,

I thought about whether I should post this thread in the first place, whether here or somewhere else. The "subtitle" fo the "Proven Power Bragging" says:

Big power, big egos... Report and discuss your 1/4 mile, Dyno and other achievements here.

So, I guess I was in the "other achievements" line of thinking, with this thread. If it makes you feel better, my WRX still has the stock stereo system, and no "bling bling" graphics on the sides!

96Lconversion,

Thanks. Yup, it was pretty cool, to see it in the 4-page spread in Import Tuner. First time I've ever had my car in a magazine. Not sure yet on the "actual" 0-60 figure, but I can tell you it's mighty fast indeed. I've got a normal road section each morning that I do a quick 0-100 run (going up a slight hill) and I reach 100 faster in the WRX than I did in my 911. However, once the Supra gets back from the race shop, it'll be a different perspective.

dazz1,

Thanks for asking, man. It was a tossup, whether I would do bracket racing or the car show. I attended the Turbo Magazine / NHRA drag racing class at the track, it was [b]very[/i] informative. I'm thinking about getting back over to Ennis soon with my track wheels and tires mounted, to get some more practice and experience in the 1/4 mile event.

Regards,

GoodFinder

Dont think of me a show car hater. I am not and have not called you ricy or something like that. Just seemed mis-posted to me. But while it is here and we are talking about it, Your car looks great, and above all tasteful. Congrats on your achievements.

Congrats, Steve!!!

GreyBeard - I am on the alternate list for participation in the Ultimate Street Car Challenge event. Josh Jacquot (Senior Editor at Sport Compact Car magazine) says there is still a possibility. I would love to get the WRX out there to be one of the 10 participants. We shall see. Ubetcha, if I get to come out there, I'll be sure to let you know. Last year, I think something like 3 out of the 10 actual contestants, were drawn from the alternate list, so I'm "at the ready" if I get the call from Josh.

Redleader - Thanks for the congrats. It's been a lot of fun the first year of ownership, and I plan to keep this car for a good while. Of course, I've still got plenty of things I'd like to do with it.

PadreWRX - Ha ha, you mean, I met you before you were famous. We're all in awe of your performances at the strip in El Paso. Now you've got some new opportunities there in Georgia!

onesillyracer2k2,

Thanks! On the street (and in those pics) I run the Fikse "Mach V" in 18x8. They are custom 3-piece forged and look beautiful indeed. The nicest wheels I've ever owned, but the most expensive, too. On the track (for lighter weight) I run SSR "Competition" in 17x7.5.

One more question. What side skirts are those on your car?

onesillyracer2k2,

Zero/Sports sideskirts and Zero/Sports rear wing.

But, I need to put a new set of sideskirts on ... the rear of the Zero/Sports pieces have been stress cracking and breaking up, even though it's made of urethane ... the fit of these sideskirts has not been optimal, a bit "short" for the USA spec WRX.

So, I'm considering either the Griffin sideskirts or the C-West sideskirts ... and then repairing the Zero/Sports ones and repainting them, and then either keeping them for backup or just selling them.

If you or anybody here wants a full one-page profile listing the mods to the car, I have it in a tight Adobe Acrobat file, just send an email to me at Steve Harvey and I'll be happy to send it as an email attachment right back over to you.

My wife and I participated in an interesting car show last weekend. They stopped the registrations at 175 cars, but there were probably another 50 or so that were spilling over. It was mostly street rods, muscle cars, and tons of Corvettes (the Lone Star Corvette Club conducted the event). I think I was the only Japanese import on the pavement in the car show Saturday night! Tons of interest in the WRX, steady stream of folks checking it out. Yes there were some "blank stares" by some folks who didn't get it, but that was interesting to see, too. I even won a trophy for 3rd place in the "2000 & Newer" class, that was a surprise! Just out there having fun with the car and representing the Subaru enthusiast community a bit.

Cheers, GoodFinder
