Default HLA G valvetrain rpm limits

Mechanically, the G HLAs appear to be exact to the EG33 valvetrain, which I am intimately familiar with. The one difference I see is that the G does not use dual springs, where the EG does.

The EG tolerates 7800rpm (valvetrain limited) easily.
I see a 7400 ceiling noted with the G.

I am curious to see if we can cram the inner spring off an EG into the G. Of course we'd need to compare the lift values and such between the two. Could this give the resilience to reach 7800 safely?

HLA EJ20G 7200 with moderate boost, above it or with more boost valve float will occur.

You cannot use EG33 HLA on an 1992-1996 EJ20G HLA as the diameters are different (EG is bigger, 33 mm whereas EJ20G is 30 mm). You could use those lifters on 1997-1998 EJ20G/K/R heads (same diameter of buckets) if you also use EG33 valves and springs.

Thanks as always Marnix.

So a certain no to using just EG inner springs with the G primary springs?

I've never checked that in details but I doubt it.

I have ordered valve springs, seat, retainer and intake valve for an SVX to check if they work on EJ20G/K heads.

Even thought my G says 7300ish RPM, I shift at 7.

The 1994-1996 EJ20G type RA and STI RA engine has a 7500 rpm redline but come w/o HLAs.
