So my wife and I got approved for the yak apartments, but they said they probably wont have a unit available until mid September and were coming up in the beginning of august. Can anyone help me find a realtor or someone to contact about a place that accepts pets?

Have you jumped onto fairbanksforum.com?

If you do, Siamiam/Pnut should be able to help you out in finding lodging, or knowing where to look. He's strangely good at web searches.

HAve you also tried Craigslist?

Bump. So my wife and I are starting our drive here in 2 weeks. One thing I have heard from some people is that small dogs and cats will get taken by eagles? Lol I know it's a stupid question, but have any of you heard of this happening? We have a small winer dog and a cat. The cat will be a inside cat but I know it will be trying to get outside.

Lol, I guess it's always possible. I've never heard of it personally, I'd be more worried about a wolf or a lynx. Or an owl, I've seen a lot more of those in Fairbanks than eagles. But no you shouldn't be worried unless you just let your animals run lose.

There are fox to worry about too. If the pets stay out exploring. But probably just the owls to be aware of. Not too much for predators up here in Fairbanks.

Who said that? My diesel truck BARELY started at -45* without being plugged in. The next day, plugged in fired right up like it was 70*

Better yet, find a house that has a garage. Buy a house, you can do whatever the hell you want... well other than brew up meth in your bathtub.

Diesels especially need help at that temperature, but I think what he was saying is that you should have more than just a block heater when it's that cold.

Good batteries with a trickle charger tied into the block heater plug helps too. Trans pan heater wouldn't hurt.

All in all better idea to not park outside.

If you have that luxury, but an oil pan heater is a lot more important than a trans heater.

Yeah we will be living in apartments so no chance of having a garage. I really want to get a house, but we decided to get an apartment to see how we like it up there, and if we like it we will probably buy a house and live up there, but I am extremely excited to be coming up there in a week and a half! I will need to come out to the meet so I can meet you guys. Sucks I wont have my sti up there with me though...

So, what are you bringing up? Just the Jeep? Regardless, there are a few of us that can help you winterize your rig(s) when you get up here. Don't stress about it. Cars work just fine in the weather up here, you just have to be smart about it.

Yeah we are bringing the jeep towing a 6'x12' trailer we bought with all our stuff in it. I will be possibly be looking at buying a cheap 4x4 truck up there for me to drive around.

There are plenty of cheap beaters up here. You'll be just fine with that plan.

Well we were supposed to leave early this morning on our drive to fairbanks but yesterday morning while my wife and I were in ihop eating breakfast with my family to say our goodbyes, someone broke into our jeep in the parking lot and stole her purse that had my ssc passport and birth certificate in it as well as hers. Her and her dad can still get across the canadian border with their enhanced drivers licenses. I will be flying up to meet them on Thursday... sucky last few days...
