Default 2005 wrx motor replacement/rebuild

I am looking for a motor for my 2005 wrx. It currently has rod knock. It isnt bad, still runs fine. I need to get my DD back on the road. Can somebody point me in the right direction to get a new motor. Ideas I have tossed around

Stock 2.0 swap.
Build my current block with forged internals
sti longblock swap using stock heads.

My budget is 5 grand. Open to ideas and any help. goal for this car was about 280 WHP on stock turbo. For my budget I just dont think its gonna happen. I have an installer and I am very willing to pay shipping cost to get motor hear.

How many miles on the current long block? If <80K you could just swap the short block with and OEM for ~$1800 bux + labor + ~$700 in gaskets, fluids, bolts.

If >80K miles you may need headwork and while in there you might as well swap oil & water pumps and timing belt too, and all that installed (with the above) will come dam close to $5K. Heads on EJ205 can be pesky (albeit 05s are a bit better than 02/03s), some develop hairline cracks around plug holes and on hi mileage engines valve seals will need replacement. (basic decent head jobs are ~$500)

a (re)built longblock ej205 with moderate aftermarket parts (perhaps even a 2.1stroker) and fresh everything will run ya ~$8K installed

Other option is to consider a CCR engine for ~$4.5K New everything, in and out in a day at your local shop. www.ccrengines.com
