Default 2013 Chevrolet Impala Spied

Quote:
Chevrolet Impala’s have been known for their police usage. However, now it is getting a major overhaul. Even the current models have engines that are able to stay in the competition. Not to mention the fact that this brand is comfortable and quiet which makes it the perfect car for long distant drives. Then there is also the fact that the exterior has not excitement to it. But, based on what we have been able to spy we can see that the Impala has a lot of surprises and changes available for its fans.

For starters, that front fascia that we have grown so fond of is no longer going to be available. From looking at the test mule that is featured in the pictures we can already see that the grille and the headlights are larger, bolder and more upright. Unless our vision is playing tricks on us we would have to say that by looking at the front it could easily be confused as a Camaro or possibly even the Sonic sedan and hatchback. Then, when we take a glimpse at the back it appears to have the same taillights as the 2012 Malibu sedan. Also, we can see the trapezoidal shaped tailpipes peeking out from under the rear bumper.

We are expecting the Impala to have front wheel and all-wheel drive applications. Also, we feel as though the engine base will be the new turbo charged 2.0 liter 4 cylinders from General Motor. However, we also feel that it will keep the smooth 3.6 liter V-6 but an eAssist mild hybrid may be added in down the line as well. We have been told that we can expect this Impala to be ready for sale at the beginning of the year 2013.

Default GM invests $68 million to prepare Oshawa for next-gen Chevrolet Impala production

Quote:
Over the weekend, we learned that General Motors is working on the 2014 Chevrolet Impala that will go on sale in early 2013. GM has confirmed that it will invest $68 million to prepare the Oshawa Assembly Plant to build the next-generation Impala. The move will save approximately 350 jobs.
“With the investments for the Chevrolet Impala and Cadillac XTS, we are taking big steps forward to ensure we maximize the flexible manufacturing facility and high-quality workforce that exist in Oshawa,” said Kevin Williams, president and managing director of General Motors of Canada.
“We are building on the recent capacity increases, product launches and shift additions at our Canadian operations to affirm that Canada will play an important role in the new GM as we continue to transform our product lineup.”

Along with the production of the new Cadillac XTS, which the Impala will share many components with, GM has invested $185 million into Oshawa and has created or retained 750 jobs.

It's not going to have AWD and is most likely an update to the current dinosaurs. At least it no longer has a pushrod V6 with a 4 speed.

The pushrod was dropped last year.
And it's going on the LaCrosse/XTS platform, so AWD will be an option. This is actually a big departure from the current model.

Big and Roomy. I really wanted to see the G8 platform. That would be a great Malibu. I'm sure this will sell great, but that G8 was a cool car.

Hopefully a new platform will yield a nicer car.

The 2000-2005 was decent if you upgraded the suspension, which I did with 9C1 (police) bits like trailing arms and swaybars. Mine was a 2002 LS with the 3800 and a decent car after the suspension work and a tune.

The 2006-current version blows goats. Everyone I know that owns/owned one has hated it in any version (3.6 or 3.9, trim level, etc). I'm sure the underpinnings didn't change much, but it doesn't even feel like the same car as the 2000-2005.

I was hoping the Impala was going finally be put out to pasture, but apparently not

Is it? With all the major shell components looking exactly the same as the current car, it seems that this is just an overhaul of the same chassis.

The first post is spy photos, the second is a stock photo of current.

The spy photos only show greenhouse , mirrors, and interior, all of them are major changes. Also it seems to have a more upright front, but that could be an illusion.

Both articles talk of "major overhaul" and the second says it will come down the same line as the XTS with which it "shares a platform"

It will be a big comfy and cheap for the money sedan. The AWD will be a snow belt security thing, not a put down traction out of corners thing. Everyone here needs to calm down.

I was comparing the photos of the spied car (first post) with some google images of the current.

I agree, the Impala will be cheap, boring, and AWD will be a security option for a few.
