Default Lack of '11 and '12 WRX Wagons?!

I don't know what the deal is but I can not find a single brand new base model WRX anywhere! I talked to a salesman at dealer today and he searched on his computer for a base model (not Limited or Premium) in the entire Western US and he came up with NOTHING! There isn't a single brand new WRX on any lot... Atleast that's what his computer was saying. That seems kind of unbelieveable to me... It was showing that there were a lot of '12's that were in route and should be there any day now but most of them were WRB (which I do not want). Has anyone seen one on a lot around them??

Most people don't want to base so the dealers don't order them.

Same thing with STi's, although with STi's they will order a base and then option it up. So a true base model is hard to find.

The vehicles available in the US are as follows:

one '11 in Fla and one in NH.
Four '12's in the NE Region.
One '12 in the SDC Region.
Ten on the ground or en route to the Eastern Region
Eight on the ground or en route to the Central Region
Fourteen on the ground or en route to the Western Region.

I don't know if you remember the Earthquake/Tsunami that hit Japan earlier this year?

This was kind of hard for the Japanese to come back from. But they did it. Before the tragedy Subaru was at 150% of production of most vehicles. They were in the process of constructing a new plant to build the BRZ/FRS.
At 150% of production Subaru was just able to keep the market supply full. Since then Subaru has only been at 100% of production. So it's going to take some time to come back to 150% and keep the market supplied.
Also keep in mind Subaru is building the new Impreza, BRZ/FRS, XV, etc.. Subaru is making a lot of magic happen right now with many vehicles.

Your best bet right now is to Factory Order a car if you want one.

The low supply has absolutely nothing to do with what dealers order as far as trim. We run on a turn-n-burn theme. We get what we sell. So if I sell 20 Base cars in a year, Subaru isn't going to send me 10 Limited STi's with NAV.
Many people want Base cars. They are affordable and give you the best bang for the buck entry into the Subaru Family.

This is a time for patience or you can go with an american mfr.

Is it just me or does the new Impreza look just like the legacy?

I honestly didn't even think about that but it makes a lot of sense! Thanks!

I am looking at ordering one from the factory. What is the average turn around time on them?

A Factory Order takes either side of six to eight weeks from start to finish. With all of the stuff that's been going on with Subaru lately we have seen times range from 3-10 weeks. But 6-8 is the safe bet.

Yes, Heuberger has a car en route. It's Scheduled for 1st week of January. It says in your link that it's "in transit".

I'd rather go to Doug Smith since it is closer to where I live. Does anyone had experience with them?

Sounds good. I will probably go with them then. Save the trip up to Salt Lake and few miles on my subbie.

I couldn't find an 11 hatch. I really wanted one especially after my dreams of the STI hatch was dashed (sold it before I got to UT) - oh well.

I picked up a 2011 WRX sedan and I absolutely love it. I got the rack for my boards so I am just fine as far as cargo goes. I am really happy with my trade in - the widebody, 4 tip exhaust, and lines of the car are nicer than my 09. It also handles a bit better.

Good luck with the search.

Bought my 2012 WRX Premium hatch in DGM, at Nate Wade 2 weeks ago, after selling my 11 STI Sedan. They also had a OBP 12 WRX hatch but it's also sold. Loving mine so far!

Some pics!

ya, i plan on getting the roof rack as well cuz I'm a boarder. I still need and want the hatch though because I carry a TON of gear in the summer and I think it just looks better.

Thanks for the pics! It looks great! I am really liking the DGM, OBP, and the SWP. Not sure which I want. I am leaning towards the SWP because my last subbie was white and I love the look of it with blacked out windows!

That 2010 STI Hatch I mentioned (and you said you saw) was sold before I could see it.....I would have stretched a bit more than I am now to buy it.....I love my 11 WRX sedan though - it really is a solid car, incredible in the snow with winter tires....just what I really want and need.
