Default 99 rs swapped to 02 wrx

how hard is it going to be to swap in an 02 wrx engine to a 99 rs. all i have from the wrx is the motor and most of the wiring harnesses. i have the ecu wiring but not hvac controls. will the rs drivetrain hold up to the wrx? i know i need the turbo front cross member, but what else is needed? and can i get the complete wiring diagrams out of a chilton's manual for each car?

I don't think the chiltons manuals have the wiring diagrams, and you will need them. Search for Subaru Tech info and you will find a site where you can pay for a subscription to download all of them. Other searching may turn up the same manuals for free.

The RS drivetrain "can" hold up to the WRX power levels, depending on how you treat it. My '96 L tranny held up for about 3 years after my swap before it broke, but I beat on it pretty hard and was pushing 220 whp the whole time.

By "most of the wiring harness" if you mean you have the whole thing then you have most of what you need. You will also need a WRX fuel pump controller, a new fuel pump (I recommend Walboro), an intake, an exhaust, the front crossmember, a new front swaybar, the MAF sensor, and probably a few other little things I can't remember.

Mechanically it is a simple swap. The wiring is hard and takes some time to do right. If you do it, take the time to go through the wiring diagrams and do it right. When the car starts on the first try and you have no check engine light codes you will thank yourself.

Before you ask a question, search. This swap has been done many times and almost all the questions have been answered already.

^^beat me to it

I have a swapped RS, but I didn't do the swap to be honest. I purchased the car already swapped. It was basically built right in front of me as it went through the process.

If you head over to RS25.com they have a bunch of information on the older GC/GF chassis and swapping. You can definitely learn a lot from that site.

I was joking. I made close to 500whp on the stock RS tranny. No clutch dumps = long life. Infact I snapped a stock sti rod from power before the tranny gave out.
