Engine Mount (position) Adjustability?

Hello all. First off, if this is in the wrong section, feel free to move, but I thought this was appropriate.

I have a bit of a random question regarding engine mounts and engine position ('08 WRX). I recently had a new clutch installed. The installer opted to pull the motor as opposed to the transmission to access the clutch and fw. Obviously, he took the engine mounts loose. After a while, I noticed a god awful rattling sound coming from under the car. I quickly realized that it was the downpipe rattling against the transmission crossmember. I noticed that the little bracket the bolts the downpipe to the transmission no longer fits. A few weeks later, the noise got noticeably worse. I was beginning to wonder if I had a failed engine mount, so I installed GpN mounts. After that, the sound was even worse (presumably because the mount are stiffer than the OEM Smuckers Jelly mounts). I eventually just pulled the downpipe, and hammered in that area that was contacting the crossmember.

So my concern is that I am masking a bigger problem. Is it possible that, during the clutch and/or engine mount install, that the whole engine shifted to the right slightly? Is that even possible? We're taking 1/2" or less. I know the mounting hole themselves are slotted, and look like they allow for some left/right adjustment, but it would seem that the transmission, axles, and pitch stop wouldn't really allow for much of that.

The other possibility is that the downpipe has slowly changed shape over time (I've had it for 3 years), but I highly doubt that the exhaust gasses are anywhere near hot enough for that.

So, does anybody know if there is actually any lateral adjustment available? Am I just an idiot, and worrying about something that is insignificant?

d00000000d....loosen the mounts....use a pipe or 2x4 and shift the motor....tighten the mounts
