Went to the leap a couple of weekends ago (6/2) with Tim. It was basically the first weekend out for us this year. We both have been busy. We did a bunch of classics.

Sat: Scimitar (.9) and Bears Reach (.7)
Sun: Better with Bacon (.8), Surrealistic Pillar (.7), Surrealistic Direct (.10b, TR) and Surrealistic Direct variation (.10b, TR)

Went to Tuolumne last weekend (6/16) with a noob. So we got on a bunch of stuff that I could lead comfortably and he could follow. He also lead some stuff that was more sport like.

Saturday: South Crack (.8R), Bombs Over Tokyo (.10c), Darth Vador's Revenge (.10a. noob lead)
Sunday: Crest Arch (.9+, all me)

Went to Tuolumne with Tim last weekend (6/29).

On Saturday we linked Eurotrash (.10c) to Hobbit Book (.7RX). We both led Little Sheba (.10a) on the way back to the car from the first two climb.

On Sunday we did the West Ridge of Conness (.7) car to car. Started at 5:30 and back at 4:30. That was a fun day.

On Monday we bagged Great Pumpkin (.8 RX) before heading home.

Pics later.

Vies from the approach to Conness.

On route. Super-chill short rope simul-climb.

Giant Sierra rat. We left trekking poles and this little **** ate the straps and foam off the handles. They like the salt.

Tim on .8 R on Great Pumpkin.

Tim following the second pitch.

Tim a the end of the .6RX section. Not hard but definitely no fall allowed territory.

Move to 1 minute mark where he is given a rope.

Watch.

I would have turned the ice brown with my fear spilling out.

What the hell is he doing climbing melting ice? Looks like he should have been to his right of that runnell. Glad he made it, but hopefully that will smart him up....especially if he is going to put his exploits and follies out there for the world to see. This video just reeks of inexperience and poor reading of the conditions.....notice how sinker the ice is once he goes out there to the right, and it almost looks like he could have gotten some gear out there too. This actually reminds me of the scene from north peak over the weekend, gumbies trying to get hurt all over the place. Best not to hit peter principle out in the mountains.

That said, going for a birthday peak bagging, beer drinking, golden trout fishing assault this friday to tuesday. Fishing Cottonwood Lakes, gonna traverse Mt Langley, Mt Corcoran, Mt LeConte....adding Mallory and Irvine if making time and feeling our wheaties.

Ran up Mt Abbott last week by myself, perfect conditions, snow not too soft, great glissading down.

We have the most perfect weather these days up here, conditions for climbing are perfect for staying in the shade all day.

Great Pumpkin is a neat old route, just the right amount of spice, no? Funny I saw you there last year when I was on it. (STI Dreams)

That guy wasn't tethered (I don't climb so forgive my lack of proper climbing jargons) in case he fell? I mean, before he got help.

Woo! Climbing thread! Not sure how I missed this ...

Been climbing in Squamish since late May and in North Vancouver since June .. whenever I could find dry(ish) rock. Now that summer has finally arrived, we're going to kick it into high gear.

I like to alternate two days of clipping bolts with a day of climbing on gear ... usually out 2 or 3 days each week.

Anyone here climb around Seattle? I might be moving down there in the next month or two and I'm curious about the best places to do some easy (5.9) multipitch on gear or easy bolt clipping for fun (5.11)

He has a rope on, but he's leading, meaning the rope goes down, to your last piece of gear, and will catch you if you fall, who knows where his last piece is or if its any good. They threw him a rope from the top, a toprope, not how you normally climb stuff in the mountains. Then again, you dont usually climb through running water with no gear, a camera on you, and an audience who can bail you out of any evil shenanigans you get yourself tangled up in. Hes lucky and hopefully smarter now. Dunno the conditions of the video, but it doesnt look like a good situation there, maybe some lack of experience.

Agreed.

Learning how to control your fear is one of the first steps .. but once you've done that, the most important lesson comes next: learning when to turn around.

Who was it that said that climber's start their careers with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience ... the goal is to fill the second before the first runs out.

That guy just used up the rest of his bag of luck, I figure.

i like the use of the word "tethered"

but seriously, that guy had no business being on that. that ice wouldve put a nice dent in his face if it had broken free earlier.

oh yeah, i set up my ice training logs!! wheee

Just the right amount of spice. I really loved the old school feel on it. Nothing like numerous 30' runouts to get your attention and a 65' runout put the cherry on top. I loved it.

If you like the pumpkin you'll love Hobbit Book. Same type of stuff but easier climbing. I actually liked it better (for quality) than Great Pumpkin.

Have you been on inverted stair case on Fairview? That's a must if you like this kind of stuff. Quality!

I actually did about half of it, got tired of it right before the staircase, did the slabby old 5.8. Wasnt into it, we were confused and put off by how dirty it was, spending too much time making sure we were on it since it was so dirty at the time. The old falkenstien book doesnt give enough info, superhomo gives too much and embellishes. Annoying to do so much routefinding related to crappy beta on a classic and/or trade route. Too bad we cant just have an accurate guidebook without all the unnecessary spoon feeding. I still need to hit hobbitt book though, good excuse to do Oz again.

Headed out to do some golden trout fishing and peakbag Langley, corcoran, leconte and if were moving good, mallory and down arc pass. Camping at cottonwood lakes.

Good question, do you get paid in handjobs and liquid gold out there or something? I have 2 buddies from here that moved out there, one in Greenville, the other is military and was at Bragg, now by nashville. Both just want to get out of there and come home.
