Default EJ20k parts: camshaft holder & valve shims... which USDM model?

i have two ej20k heads that i'm rebuilding, and i had a few questions..

1. how do i find out which camshaft holder goes where? (the 2x U-shaped camshaft holder per each camshaft)? i'm torqueing these holder to spec (12lbs), but camshafts are binding pretty badly.

2. are these camshaft holders interchangeable with the 2002 WRX holders?

3. will 2002 wrx shims fit the ej20k valve shims?

thanks in advance.

according to this, http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1224673 the parts you want will be from an ej25d. unless you want to upgrade to a shimless bucket then you will want to use exhaust buckets from an ez30 if I understood marnix correctly in another thread I was reading.

They are marked 1E 2I etc. The cams bind a bit when you first tighten them, spin them by hand and they will center themselves and break free, if they don't you did something wrong.

No cam caps are the same as 97-99 EJ25D. You can't just bolt them on from another head and go though, you would need to have the heads line bored or honed.

No. Shims are the same as 97-99 EJ25D. Unless you have STI shim under bucket heads. Then you need to order from Japan.

thank you for the excellent information!

my shims look like the watch batteries that goes inside of the bucket against the valve end directly.

are these the same as the ej25d shims? sorry, wasn't too sure about what "under" bucket meant

Yeah those are under bucket.

The EJ25D ones sit on top of the bucket and ride on the cam.

You're going to have to get those from Japan or the UK.
