Default speed sensor mechanical to electronic

Hey guys did the swap ver 4 sti with electronic speed sensor in to my 97 impreza with a mechanical speed sensor setup. The problem I am having is because the ecu is not seeing the speed sensor the car runs like crap. So in order to swap it all over to electronic so it will run right what needs to be done? I already have the electronic speed sensor and the wiring but am not sure how to integrate it in to the writing harness to work.

What ECU are you using this with? Is it a engine and trans swap, or just the engine using the 97 trans?

pull the speed sensor out of the trans and put your cable in it. (you may have already done this) then look at your wiring diagram for your car, not the new engine, and you will find a vss wire coming from the IP cluster. tap into this and run it to the V4 ECU where it wants a VSS input.

i have done this many times, it is not a problem.

post what year and model the car is and i can help with where you will find the wire you need.

Tthis.

if you did the wiring merge correctly on the chassis, then the wire from the cluster should already be going to the ECU, but since the cluster isnt getting signal, thats why its not working. just swap your cable speed sensor into the transmission (they are swappable with the electronic speed sensors)

Will the mechanical speed sensor work with the transmission that was setup for the electronic?

yeah am currently running a 1988 GL cable in a 2003 JDM STI Trans. i have also installed 3 V5-6 EJ207s into 93-95 body cars, pulled the VSS out of the trans and installed the cable in its place. all are working just fine.

i have a 1991 legacy ss that will be running a link ecu and sti v8 motor and v7 6 speed.

i am having the same issue as the 91 legacy reads mechanically but the newer stuff (6 speed) all run electrically. the link ecu would need to see speed for gear dependent mapping.

any assistance would be helpful. thanks.
