Default How long does the waterpump last?

Previous owner did the timing belt at 66k due to a tensioner failure. I'm at 105k now - the belt will be good for a while, but should I worry about the water pump ( confirmed it wasn't done with the belt )?

It lasts until it fails. Literally. There is no replacement schedule for it.

Honestly why not just change it and have peace of mind. Small price in comparison to other major servicing needed if the pump fails you.

Of the 5 Subaru's my parents have owned and my first one, they all failed around 180K to 190K miles. It's crazy that they all failed within a 10K span.

Mine has 102K on it and I replaced it with the timing belt. Honestly I think it would have been fine, but if you are in there, might as well replace it right?

In that case I'll probably hold off for a while as the belt has less than 40k on it now. Not that I'd wait another 60k miles, that's way too close for comfort. Probably summertime

3 1/2 years working at a subaru dealer and I have seen maybe 5 fail. They are pretty reliable up until high mileage(180k+). I wish Toyota built theirs as good.

I've only been at a Subaru dealership for a bit over a year, and we've seen what, 1 pump fail?

When I go in tomorrow I'll ask the guys to look at the history of the 99 outback we've been working on for the last 326k miles and see if it's ever had a water pump put in.

They're pretty robust. I've done 2 belt jobs on my WRX's. Both around 100k and the pumps were in perfect condition with no bearing free play and no issues with the impellers.
