Default Another TRAX/Car accident?

From Today:
http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=1872...in-west-jordan

Seriously, what the crap is going on out there on Utah's roads? I think I've seen about half a dozen or so news stories on KSL in the last month about dumb morons getting hit by TRAX trains! How Mother ****ing stupid do you have to be to get hit by a massive colorful train that is nearly impossible to miss?! And on top of that, there are those arms with flashing red lights that lower when a train comes to prevent you from crossing the tracks.

Past accidents:

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=960&sid=17953866

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=18267239

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=960&sid=18195560

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=9984734

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=5743715

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=960&sid=17202864

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=11367133

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=87482

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=3152933

Am I missing something? Are Light-Rail/Car/Pedestrian accidents common in big cities? Or are Utah drivers just the lowest common denominator?

I think a big part of the problem is people try and beat the train or get past the gates because its such a HUGE inconvenience to have to wait a few minutes.

^ THIS

The main thing I noticed living in Utah is that people seem to be in a hurry once they get in their cars. Outside of driving Utahn's seem to be pretty relaxed, but put them in a car and it's A to B as fast as possible.

Utah is the only place I can say if you're pulling up to a light, the car behind you will almost always (seriously at least 75% of the time, pay attention and you'll notice it) get in the next lane over if it means they'll be at the front of the line, if that means they can get to the next light two seconds faster.

That hardly happens anywhere else I've lived, including Boston, and that town is crazy.

The people that ride public transportation are poor, and therefore less important than me, so they have no right to arrive at their destination before me.

The Trax train is our largest natural predator in Utah. You might be next.

I do this religously because, if you don't, you'll get stuck behind the following:

- People on their phones.
- Old People
- People that leave their brains at home like 50% of all Utahns
- People who are on drugs, lots of drugs, because persciption drug addictions are not really bad. This is the other 50% of all Utahns on the road.

Plus I drive a manual 1.8L that surprizingly accelerates 100% faster than most the people on the road.

Same here.

To add to your list of why I get over when I can:

- Minivans full of screaming brats with the driver not paying attention
- Substitute minivans with SUVs
- The person who takes 2 miles to actually hit the speed limit if they even hit it at all

My car is not fast by any means. But I like to leave the light when it actually turns green and I even enjoy going slightly above the posted speed limit.

People driving 55 on the south end of bangerter is why I try pulling to the front. Plus people do that everywhere. Have you ever been to California? Splitting lanes is awesome because you pull up to the front of every light!

Or you get stuck behind me... And will stay far behind me until you catch back up at the next light because I like to accelerate a bit quicker than most. Gas mileage is for pussies.

I think this was the basis of my post... People ALWAYS do that to me. If you're pulling up to this:

The last thing I'm thinking is ah crap old, drugged up person on their phone.

Which still leads me to believe Utah is just full of impatient, self righteous drivers.

I am one of those who will always seize the opportunity to get in the front of the lane simply because most Utah drivers drive too slow, as if they have nowhere to be.

Ya pretty sure that's what the guy that t-boned me in an intersection here in Provo was taught as well... In the end it didn't turn out well for any of the four cars that were involved...

And isn't this the point of driving? Getting from point A -> B as quickly as possible? I swear this is the problem with Utahn's. They aren't in their cars to get somewhere, they're in there car to text or look at the scenery, be high on drugs. It's never about just getting to where your supposed to be going.
