Default Current Motul vs Extra S

Subaru Extra S is being sold at $15-20 per quart now. Would this be incentive to switch over to Motul instead since the price is near the same now?

Price doesn't matter, what works well in your car matters. If you are using Motul and your car likes it....stick to it even if it is $100/quart. Switch to save money at your own peril as you might switch back 4 hours later when you find out the other "know good type" hates your particular car for no good reason.

I agree with 'bomber.

I've tried both and Mobil Delvac is the only gear oil that I've bought twice in a row. I loved Gear 300 at first, but it became notchy after a year. That was in an '03 WRX and I haven't tried it in the FXT. My only complaint about Extra-S is that it took too long to warm up in winter and I don't have patience. If the Extra-S is working well I would stick with it.

I'll have to agree with the above two comments. There's a reason why so many people rave about Extra-S, it's a great oil. I would stick with what's working for your current driving style.

Paul

p.s. I just changed my transmission oil and got it in 1L bottles from these guys:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...t=42+autosport

Happy with their speedy shipping and product but sales guy wasn't the most knowledgeable.
I put their syncro cleaner in for 20 easy minutes of driving, drained, and now it shifts just as new (actually getting into 1st gear is much easier now than from when I first bought the car)

got my extra s from 42 autosports too. it shipped quick. it made a nice difference in shifting smoothness, especially in the real cold days.

That's a very competitive price IMO. Subaru dealers are charging $20 per quart now. God I miss the days when 5 Qt of Extra S was $75 shipped

Anyone have experience with Synchro magic?

Yes, I tried 42Autosports synchro magic. I first drove it around to operating temp, put the synchro magic in and drove for an easy 20 minutes not shifting above 3K rpm, and then drained. I don't know if it's a combination of the synchro magic or new oil but I'm very pleased with how the car shifts.

i've ran both motul 300 and extra-s before. for me, extra-s got notchy earlier than motul 300. i liked motul 300 better.

I'm running Extra-S in my '93 LeMons/Chumpcar and Andrewtech's recommended mix of Redline 75W-90NS (3qts) with Motul 300 (remaining balance) in my '98L. Personally the '98L shifts much more smoothly than '93. I'll be draining the crapcan trans and going with the Redline/Motul mix before our next race.
