I noticed this after I installed my group-N engine mounts, but the temperatures were also dropping around that time. It gives a pretty rough shake and stutter sometimes when coming to a stop, but it has never stalled. Definitely appears that the engine and frame hit resonance around 2k. Outside of that, it's smooth with no vibration.

I currently own a '13 WRX hatch which I have regretfully traded my '08 STi in for and I am as well having these same issues with 11k on the odometer.

The only mods I have done are cat-back, Cobb SF intake with box and AP Stage 1 93 SF OTS map.

I'm getting:
-surging at low speeds, sometimes the car starts bucking
-stalling problems because of the dip in engine rpms coinciding with moving from a stop
-on cold engine start the rpms will jump around
-after warm up, when coming to a stop the rpms sometimes will dip but most often they don't but the car has an aggressive vibration as if it is misfiring...Sometimes for a second or two or it will do it until I start moving again

All of this has gone on for the last 2-3 months/~6k on odometer. My mods were installed at about 2500.

I initially chalked it up to possible change in weather, cold to semi cold warm; winter to summer fuel mixes etc...but then recently as of a week ago it was running extremely rough and finally threw a CEL code PFFFE which apparently isn't really a code rather than a fault code from Cobb but that was the only code. I cleared the code and it came back so I flashed back to stock map and the car ran even worse but without CEL.

I then decided to take the car to the dealership, told them the whole bit and they took it in and they ran an electrical diagnostics. The initial results were that my ECM was losing communications with the sensors and the point of failure was my after market stereo, Kenwood DNX9960. So I road up to the dealership and swapped the radio's out. The results of the stereo swap were that had fixed the problem. The electrical diagnostics were able to complete their test without any stags. The idle was smooth again etc.. Me being the pessimist that I am said only time will tell....so for about 5 days afterwards the car ran awesome without a hitch and now the issues are starting to show it's ugly face again...

I have a 2010 and even before i put my full VTA BOV on mine did the same thing. It would dip down to almost 300rpm at idle, especially when I came to a stop. It happened when I had the stock recirc on too. I think it is just a common occurrence. It is more noticeable when the air conditioning is on too. Just my two cents

Default 08 wrx same issues idling

I have the same issues with my 2008 pro tuned WRX. I never really noticed it intill a few months after my turbo swap, (VF52) front mount, headers and ECBS, bigger fuel pump were installed. sometimes backing up into parking spaces it sounds like it wants to stall. it even has happened one time. and now this morning pulling forward in first gear at a red light the same thing happened along with the traction control light flicking on for about 3 seconds.. though it didn't stall out. sounds like the 08s are having the most issues with this. any ideas if that valve getting replaced is the answer?

+1 2011 wrx almost stalls at a stop

My solution: Under AP adjustments, adjust the idle +100 (a/c off) and +125 (a/c on)

I agree. My doesn't feel like its going to stall but idle always felt rough, shakes the whole car almost to the point the mirror would blur images lol.. Adjusted mine +100/+100 and it feels so much better.

I have a '11 wrx with pro-tune, fmic, header, up-pipe, dp, catback, ebcs, intake, full recirc valve. I've had the low idle dipping issue for as long as i can remember. Car currently has 82k miles on it and it has been throwing CELs during rough idle on cold starts and while stopped at lights. Im getting cylinder misfires on all 4 and the pfffe code. I took the throttle body out recently to examine the idle air control valve for intake charge build up, but its attached to the TB with rivets. I didn't know its normal to have coolant in the TB hoses so i blew some of it out as well as the iacv. Also cleaned my perrin intake with oil based filter. The car ran awesome for a day, but the issues are back. I also noticed my coolant overflow reservoir empties itself after a short drive. I realize i may have other issues at this point like head gasket, compression issue, etc but i just wanted to share my experience.

Has anyone tried TGV deletes? If so, what were the results? My car has stalled countless times with clutch in due to the idle dipping. I dont like the idea of adjusting idle with AP on pro-tune. Im not sure if that would affect anything...

If your car is stalling there is a problem that needs to be addressed. That is not normal behavior.

Found a coolant leak coming from the driver side end of the top radiator hard line/rail rubber plug, replaced it and ran some injector cleaner through the car and its idling great and no more misfires! My injectors are running at 100% according to my tuner so i think they're more susceptible to build-up/gunk. I have my ID1000s and ngk spark plugs ready to go in before another protune.

I did notice the temp gauge fluctuating quite a bit when the idle was stalling..
i noticed the same thing. Mine dips and feels like its going to stall and when i look at the gauges, the temp gauge jumps up and down maybe a line or 2. i will have to check my resevoir

For all you 08s out there it could be your intake manifold gasket. as the ones in 2008 were to small and casue a leak at the intake manifold. check out this thread.

Swaj420's link about the intake to tumbler gaskets was the issue for my stock 08 WRX. Had them replaced for $400 by a shop after I printed out the thread and gave it to them . they tested the specific area for a vacuum leak in this area during cold start (left it overnight on a cold day). They were previously stumped until I brought this and told them what to do. Only afterwards did one of their techs mention that he was aware of this gasket issue.

It's been about a month since, and cold as all hell, not a single stall or CEL. Does occasionally dip idle slightly when coming to stop on the really cold days (today was -15), but not as noticeably. I intend to write to Subaru, maybe if everyone complains they'll actually put out a recall

My completely stock 2014 wrx with 7k miles does this too. It idles down real low and feels like it wants to stall when stopping or slowing down in 1st gear usually at less than 10mph. I have also noticed an occasional real light nock sound on cold starts that stops when the engine is warm. I'll be taking it to the dealership soon and until then driving my secondary car. Good old pt cruiser w 130k miles and never has had one issue.

I have a 13' Wrx bone stock with the same issue, been doing it since brand new. I was told not to worry about it, unless the car stalls it "should" be okay. Sometimes it gets so close to stalling and that worries me a lot. I have had it in to my local dealer 3 times for this problem, and have yet to see it fixed. They have reflashed my ECU twice, still does it. Tightened turbo inlet hose, no fix. I am really running out of patience now haha. Car is in again today so hopefully I see some results.

I have brought my car into the dealer for this same issue. Car is stock as well, the dealer re-flashed the ECU but it didn't help. It usually happens when I'm reversing out of my driveway and push the clutch in while transitioning into 1st.

yeah and mine seems to be worst when im pulling into my driveway or a parking spot. It obviously has nothing to do with the ECU. My idle even drops when turning on my headlights, heated seats, etc. It sucks. Especially when other than these stupid issues the car is awesome!

Can't believe how many people are losing their minds over the NORMAL operation of their cars. Rapid changes in engine load cause idle speed fluctuation. Unless your MIL is on, your car is most likely performing to specifications.

Mine does the same thing and has stalled at idle 2-3 times. It seems like this happens in very cold weather (negative numbers) and the car struggles to keep the engine lit. I have to blip the throttle up to 1,000-1,500 rpm's to get through the parking ramp without dogging the engine.

I've found a couple of unusual things with this '13 WRX. Maybe the car is harder to live with than an Accord, but I was surprised when it stalled coming down from throttle to idle.

It with be going to a Subaru deal for routine service in the next week or so. I'd also had stability control, hill assist and ABS go out a couple of times in the cold. So they are going to plug my car in and see what is going on.

It's totally normal for the car to be kind of jerky if you're coasting while in 1st gear. The engine is trying to keep from stalling. I have a '13 STI. Also if it's very cold this is more noticeable. Try gas from a different station as well. I had some stalling issues when I first got the car. Tried a different station and it must have been the gas.
