The chakal
I Drive my car normally and I allow it warm up before I drive off. Im in Florida and we dont get that much colder than 40s at night this time of yr and its normally in the high 70s for temp. I drive alot of city its about a 40 mile round trip from home to work and back. Im just wondering if I change my exhaust and intake will I get a better gas mileage. I love my wagon I just want to improve it.

I still suggest you try what Commander Keen suggested; get on one of those long flat Floridian highways, set the cruise to 55-65, then reset the trip od. After a mile, the computer will start to calculate mpgs (obviously toggle to mpg), and cruise for twenty plus miles.

While the computer is generous in its calculation, I haven't noticed it give me a false reading higher than 2 mpgs over actual hand calculated mpgs. So if it reads around the sticker's advertised 37 mpg, then your poor fuel economy is due to your driving style/habits. If it reads much worse than that, you might actually have a problem that would require the dealer's attention.

I would definitely try this before you take it to the dealer, and wouldn't suggest spending money on exhaust in hopes of getting better mileage. And apparently, according to many on this forum, our intake is top notch, no need to customize. It might actually run worse if you make changes to it.

Ethanol needs a richer mix for a complete burn, so its not unusual to see 15% loss in mileage with 10% ethanol in fuel.

Stick to the ethanol free stuff if you can

Took the 13 on it's first real road trip, from effort PA to pawleys island SC. Amazingly enough low to no traffic, pa turnpike, around philly to 95 all the way down. Car was loaded with stuff for my daughters house, 38MPG down based on ODO and gas actually used, cruise pretty much set to 70 with bursts to 80 to get around trucks and RV's. Return trip a week later 36MPG on the return but traffic was crawling from MD to Philly. For sure liking the mileage. 685 miles house to house one way.

Do I see -18 on your dash? OUCH! That has to take a bite out of fuel economy.

The 87E0 trial begins. This last tank (E10) netted a hand calculated average of 33.5 MPG. 333.9 miles / 9.964 gallons at fill up. IIRC, AVG speed was 28 MPH. Will see if the car likes the ethanol-free diet it will be given over the coming weeks and if it is worth the "price premium" vs. E10. Even if it won't actually be a truly ethanol-free gas tank until who knows when.

I just finished my three 89e0 tests and am going back to 87e10 since i am on a new commute. My fuelly lifetime fuel ups chart shows a steady mpg increase over the past couple months using 89e10 and 89e0.

i continue to watch your results with great interest.

i did 4 tanks of 89E10 and i could only squint at my MPG records and argue maybe a 1 MPG increase over 87E10. (i was seemingly getting "above average MPG" but nothing that was clearly better than i had ever seen before for a given average MPH.

on a recent tank, i switched gases to 87E10 Shell (i'm usually a Chevron guy) and saw my mileage plummet well below norm, so i was thinking that maybe it was a combination of the colder weather (for CA), and maybe i was wrong about the 89E10. i went back to 89E10 for a mostly highway driving tank and i got mid 30's as expected from prior driving at 65-70MPH speeds.

so back on 89E10 this tankful and my normal short commute and mini highway trips on weekends (10 miles max)l, and we are hitting the coldest temps we ever see in the SF Bay Area (not cold compared to many folks here) with low 30s during my commute in during the morning. i am continuing to see low numbers overall.

so...i think i will return to 87E10 Chevron on my next few tanks and see where things go. i wish i could say i saw a 2-3 MPG uptick like you did, but i don't see it. unfortunately, even though my driving is regular, there is enough variability in what i do beyond commute driving that makes it difficult to fully discern small differences. (what i'm doing to determine any change is looking at average MPH vs MPG -- that seems to be a consistent trend for me with some variability of course)

Did a 802.2 kilometer drive this week. All highway. Calculated at 5.8l/100km or 40.55 mpg. Speed was set at 105kph on the cruise.

I'll admit that there is plenty of variability in weather lately and even in my own driving. This new commute is wacky. In the morning the traffic is flowing pretty well but evenings are awful and occasionally at a standstill. Even though it is longer with more highway stretches (16 mile 50cty/50hwy) my avg mph is about the same or lower than it was with my beloved short commute (7 mile 90cty/10hwy).
At any rate, it's entertaining to test hypotheses. Still need to do the 0-60 test with paddle shifts @ 5500 rpm.

What's your fuelly linky?

i always try to note average speed in my notes as i think it's hard to specify city/highway driving ratios accurately.

my current tank is already shaping up to be poor, even with 89E10, so that 87E10 at Shell may not have been to blame...just the cooler winter temps and maybe a change in winter blend. last year i could blame the A/C with the defrost mode, but i'm careful to only use that now when it is raining and the windows are fogged.

I have only put around 640 miles on my 2014 Impreza Sport Premium combination city/highway is 25.5 mpg average. I have been really disappointed since it should be getting 27/36 according to Subaru. I have not been driving like a race car driver at all either. I have been only getting on the gas when I pull out from a stop sign to merge onto the highway...?

My supercharged V6 4x4 Nissan Frontier crew cab truck I traded in for the car got an average of 19.8 mpg. I like the car but I thought it would get a lot better then 5.7 mpg more.
