I've gone to 2 twins games in heavy traffic this week (along with my noted 38.x monday escapades) and still show 33.6 after 310 miles on the tank (so will be about 32mpg). The average mph is at 35.

Face it, you're still in break-in, whoever drives the car probably has a lead foot and you're probably averaging 18mph a tank. fess up! just because you have the worst mpg of any owner, doesn't mean that is what every owner should expect to get. If we told you to come back when you hit 5000 miles, how long would it be before you returned to the forum?

You live in the mountainous region of kirkland, wa is that right? the same one with elevations from 14 to 500 ft? Here in the twin cities area the elevation ranges from 1,376 feet (419 m) above sea level in the northwest metro to 666 feet (203 m) at the edge of the Mississippi River in the southeast, that would be 710 feet in range (and guess what I drove through all of it on monday, hah). its called wikipedia.
Exactly. My tundra has gotten 20 mpg 95% highway and I have gotten as high as 16mpg in urban city situations. Sticker reads 12/18 I believe. In both cases I am getting well above the sticker. There have been weeks where I have gotten well below my averages. My buddy has the same exact truck and he gets constantly 2-4 mpg less than me. It's all driving style! When I drive a little harder, my mileage plummets big time. Drive like you are actually trying to save gas and see your mileage improve. Rs under 2K when taking off, coasting to stops..etc. It's not rocket science. You drive hard you will get worse mileage. I drop 4 mpg easily on any car I own by driving a little more aggressive.

Does any one else find that the miles to empty is completely wrong? It will say I have about 180 miles left and I only have one bar on the gas gauge... Very frustrating... Also why does it only update every 10 miles... I have had other cars that have a constant update.

^^ actually, that has happened to me too. there will be 1 or to bars left with 150or so miles left. i actually wanted to tested it out. so i kinda did. with one bar left, i drove in the city which mine has a lot gas stations so i never really need to worry about be stranded. i drove until it said i had 30 miles left. from that one bar, i drove 100 miles to zero bars til it said 30 miles. i ended up putting 13.xxx gallons in there. which is about accurate i guess. the gas gauge isn't.

but i do agree, i wish it gave constant updates to the first digit instead of the ten digit. because when it says 330, is it 334 or is it 326 miles?

The bars left is like any gas gauge. It leaves a little left as a reserve so you don't run out. I have gone 60-80 miles on most of my cars when the light has gone on and said 0 miles left.

Did this on my last tank. No bars and said 60km to go. Based on my fuel consumption that seemed about right. Had about 3l left in the tank and range said 40 at fill.

im quite certain you have to ask for it. unless they are an awesome dealership, which is unlikely.

Yes. It has been wrong Ll over the place (full, half, etc.). Sad thy it's so bad that it seems useless.

When does it typically go to 0 bars for people?

(not that I run it that low, but it would be good to know.

Not for me.

I think in time I will resort to my traditional method of figuring out what the bars mean for my car.

Eg, I've twice seen 3 bars left has me fill up 10.2 gallons. But that being said, it's held that 3 bars for quite prior to my purchases so my next test if possible, is see where it becomes 2 bars.

Maybe we could take a survey here?...

Yeah the fuel gauge bars seems like it doesn't correlate with the digital display, especially when you've just fueled up and when there is 1 or 0 bars left. If I recall correctly the fuel light comes on at 60 km, the last bar is around 120-140 km and then it rapidly drops and the last bar disappears.

Wavear15, how about some additional info as to what makes you happy there? When you fill it up full it reads 450 miles to empty, and then adjusts based on actual consumption. Note that 450 miles to empty at fill up is just over 30mpg. So, if you'd just filled up then drove for 10 or 20 miles with higher than average economy it would bump up to a number like this.

lol i drove 12x miles with 430 miles left to go displayed. that was me driving all freeway for a good 30 miles, then got home and drove in the city. that number plummeted quickly

Filled it all the way to the top at my local gas station where it read 420 to empty. Drove 43 miles to a friends place trying to maintain around 60 mph where it dipped to 410 then climbed up to 480. Avg. Mpg reading was 39.0 when I got there.

It climbed all the way to 490 by the time I got to work today, 57.5 mile trip total averaging at 38.7 MPG.

I have a 2012 Impreza with the cvt . I have 1700 miles on it. When i just drive to work and home with it - 6 miles round trip - I only am getting 24-25 mpg. If I take on longer drives I get 30 - 34 mpg.

That's pretty consistent with my recent findings. Since my last tankup I've done my suburbia style city driving with only 3-5mi trips with complete cooldowns between trips and I'm averaging about 26 on the computer. My other driving is what has gotten my running ave to 29 calculated (30 on computer).
