Actually premium is what it is because it has additives in it to slow the explosion, so running it in a vehicle designed to run on regular will give you poorer performance and the associated poorer gas mileage...

Just checked my last tank. I have about 1200 miles on my 2013 Impreza 4 door sedan Premium w/CVT. This last tank was 31.7 US mpg. That tank of fuel was from a Get Go gas station, which is a station associated with a regional grocery store. Strangely, it is about 3 mpg better than the previous tank of fuel purchased at a local BP station, not to mention it is a few cents cheaper. That is average mixed driving.

Funny thing is that you would expect the brand name station to have the better fuel, not the other way around. I'll have to try Shell at some point to see how that does.

That is 10 mpg better than my '03 WRX that it replaced, so I am happy with that.

I have 1,500 miles on my 2013 SWP Sport Limited CVT. Just filled up this morning. Since last fill up drove 354 miles and car took 12.486 gallons = 28.351 mpg. The computer displayed 29.1, so it is pretty close. This was combination of highway and bumper to bumper commuting traffic.

Just got my best tank yet. 31.3 mpg.

We piled up Misty for a visit to the in-laws for Thanksgiving. We usually take a main highway from Raleigh to Charlotte which is posted 65 or 70 mph 95% of the way and I generally drive 5 mph over. We know Imps don't like fast so I decided that on the way back we should take a more direct but back country route. Google maps said that route back would be about 30 miles shorter but 2 minutes faster. The first section is 65mph but most of it is 55.
So, the way out avgd about 29 and the way back avgd about 33. The way back was a much nicer and relaxing drive through the country but took about 15 minutes longer due to a little traffic and a few stop lights.
I know, big shocker going slower = better mpg but navigation can pay off too. If we didn't hit some traffic it would have been a tie for time but a bit cheaper going the rural route (less distance, more efficiency). It also helped my calm that there were a ton less maniacs and a-holes. I actually enjoyed the drive for once.
http://www.fuelly.com/driver/hemophilic/impreza
Running avg is 28.
Total avg is 27.3.
Just crossed 10000 miles. Had the 7500 oil change at about 9300.
Love the car even if my mpg expectations are lofty.

Just got my worst tank, though it was expected. 9.9l/100km
Driving distance to work and back 2.3km and avg temp was about 3c. Car was never warm so I knew this tank would blow. Fortunately I've changed jobs and now the car will be warm. Plus the job is better too lol

I finally got my dash MPG display adjusted (I went with a -6%) about two weeks ago. So far, the dash MPG display is now a bit less than the hand calculated MPG by about .5 MPG. Overall it looks like the "since ownership" MPG is 25.7 MPG for mostly urban, "heavy footed (my Son)" driving. Not good; however, not bad when all things are considered. I get an extra 2/2.5 MPG when I drive, except in those instances where I go back and forth to the store (less than 3 miles). Better MPG than my 2008 OBS and much much better MPG than my 2005 3.8L V-6 T-Bird.

Finished the return trip, different route, averaged about 68 but only 923 miles. I checked the odometer and it's 3% slow. So, combined with the 4% high on the dashboard mpg gauge, the dash gauge is only 1% off.

Revised numbers:
27.7 mpg at avg. 70 mph (one way), 1092 miles
28.0 mpg at avg. 68 mph (return trip), 923 miles

Improving with the break in, but still about 7 mpg less than my equally rated (36 mpg highway) Corolla.

May be coming up on my worst tank yet.

I can usually get about 90-100 miles per 1/2 tank and this time around it was 75 @ 1/4 and about 160 at 1/2.. This is my first round trying to drive without the nanny(cruise). Short drives to the bus station, cold weather, and a lead foot will do that though.

I wont gripe too much if I make it over 300 miles on this tank so we will see.

Just hit the 2500 mi mark too.

I just filled my worst tank yet yesterday, 24.9. But lots of goofing off and cruising with 30+mph head winds.

Should still beat my Buick though, I'm expecting 21 this tank

edit: buick got 20.6mpg. horray for winter blend, 15% loss across the board!

Is anyone else shockingly surprised how horrible the MPG's on this car are? I thought it was just me but the more I read I feel I am not the only one. I saw another thread about stop complaining about MPG's but I have not seen anyone nearing anything close to even 33 MPG??? I used to get above 30 MPG on my 2010 GTI with the same driving habbits that I currently do? And the GTI had 21 city 31 hwy?

Seems like a bait and switch or something that we are really doing wrong? I never used to even think about winter vs. summer and gas blends.. just how I drove? Thoughts?

Yep - pretty sad. The 5 speeds seem to get closer to advertised, but when you look at what Subaru told the EPA vs. an independent test like Consumer Reports, ya gotta wonder...

Why would you 'wonder' when you hooked your own scangauge up and saw that at 65mph your car yielded 36mpg on the highway.

Duh, how could that happen?

Just a coincidence that it corresponds with the number on your label. File a warranty complaint.

Again Zeeper, you are in lala land. It's been explained to you over and over again, and shown with basic statistics. You seem to just not understand what it means that the Impreza is two standard deviations from the independent test results of the others in its class as chosen by your equally obtuse buddy.

I just filled up tonight: 34mph avg speed for this tank over 281.8 miles. 27 mpg, my best yet! This also included driving in Black Friday traffic around the mall last Thursday night, Friday afternoon, and Saturday afternoon.

I just switched to my snow tires tonight too. I didn't check the speedometer with my GPS on the stock tires but it reads ~ .5 mph fast with 195/65/15 General Altimax Arctic snow tires.

Check the odometer, I'm curious if it is fast now too

Advertised fuel economy is possible. This is a pic from earlier in the year after i first got the car.

And please leave the complaining to the other thread.

Not necessarily. Most of us have noticed prefect speedometers and incorrect odometers. I'm curious if the odometer error increases or decreases with a speedometer change

No bait and switch. The EPA test does not include conditions where the Impreza tends to be particularly inefficient (i.e. cold start, short trips, bumper to bumper, hooning it).

Well, if the speedometer and the odometer with stock tires had a certain discrepancy between them and now if the speedometer is a bit off from the tire size, then the odometer will naturally be off.

is it too complicated to test it for us? I want to know if it changed by the same amount or not.

Are you sure this is true? Most of us who have done the math have determined that our odometers are off by something like 2.7%.

Do you really think you would recognize if a speedometer you think is perfect is actually off by 2.7% I don't think our speedometers have enough resolution for us to visually identify a 2.7% error.
