I just got my letter in the mail yesterday as well.

Unfortunately, I do not still have all those 2+ year old receipts from Napa and Autozone documenting the oil I had to purchase for top-offs, so I won't be getting reimbursed for that. The 100k mile powertrain warranty is nice, though.

LOL! I thought your problem was the valve cover and timing chain cover leaking. A new gasket and sealant is all you need.

Does every vehicle included in the class action lawsuit receive the warranty extension or just vehicles with oil consumption issues?

Both. Your vehicle has to be included and have excessive oil consumption.

I wonder how they decided the cutoff for which cars are covered and which ones arent

I got the letter in the mail and I may exclude myself from the settlement. Mine has luckily never consumed a measurable amount of oil even when doing 13K mile oil change intervals. I feel bad for those that got burners. I've been thrilled with mine because up until this Subaru I never had a car that used less half a quart over 5-8K miles. If I don't exclude myself it looks like I get an extended warranty for oil consumption for 1 year so I may just do that.

Manufacturing dates through process management & quality reports at the manufacturing locations.

So they are fairly close give or take. I'd still takes yours in to your local Subaru dealer to have the oil consumption test performed if it falls under the years claimed to have had the issue.

Worth a shot.

I just read that it'll be considered excessive oil consumption if the oil level light comes on within 5k miles [Page 17 of the settlement agreement here: http://www.oilconsumption.settlement...0Agreement.pdf ]

In that case Im definitely in.

Worth a shot.

I already had a consumption test and a new short block installed, so I was just wondering how they delineate what the cutoff is. It would suck to be on the outside looking in if your car has consumption but is outside the scope of this settlement

Its one constant that can tell me the rate that im burning oil. Its alot easier than dumping the oil , measuring, and re filling.

I think he was trying to imply that you should be checking your dip stick once in a while, some people do it every time they get gas. Yet to meet that person myself but some say they do.

The fact is that you should really only need to check your oil level every 2500 miles (for example) or unless you suspect something is wrong. Especially when the service schedule says to replace the oil every 7500 miles. I believe this changed to 5000 with the 2014? Cant remember.

Maintenance schedules depend on your driving habits. Stop and go, high speed, hilly, dusty, wet, etc. call for 3750 mile intervals on older rigs. The 2014+ are 3000/6000 mile OCIs, recommended.

In theory, revised piston rings were incorporated into production mid-2013 for Imprezas with CVTs, but ALL 2012-2014 MT Imprezas should be covered.

If you want me to run your VIN, I can check and see if the warranty extension shows up.

Just offering my personal experience here:

-The oil light in my car comes on at about 3/4 of a quart low (note: some owners have reported that theirs come on at different levels, so there may be some variation here from car to car). At 3/4 quart low, the car's still got about 4.5 quarts to work with. That's not going to hurt anything.

-Back when my car was burning oil, before it was repaired, the oil light would come on every 800-1200 miles. That's about once for every 2-3 tanks of gas.

-Some people advocate checking your oil every time you get gas. But you can't really measure the oil level accurately until your car's been sitting for 20 minutes or so, to allow the oil to drain out of the filter, right?

Been searching around for the entire letter but cant find it. Parents offered to mail it to me but once I looked at the VIN range I said no and they trashed it.

Can someone please upload the entire letter? Id like to call SOA and see what they say.
