I highly doubt it gives a better throttle response. OEM filters/airboxes are known to be sufficient even for 400+ hp STIs. One big advantage of aftermarket filters are they can be cleaned and reused.

This is a very good point and adding a CAI will most likely hurt performance. Also from what I've read the maf sensors are very finnicky and can foul easily with oiled filters like the K & N adversely affecting performance as well.

If over oiled. Ive used K&N for years with no problems. i cant stand it when 18 year olds who dont follow the directions and blame to product for their mistake.

I've run K&N in my previous cars as well and currently have in in my truck. But with the Subaru I am going to go with a non oiled filter.

From what I recall no one is actually sure if it fits or is compatible for that matter and I'm pretty sure it would only void warranty for the engine and not the rest of the car if something were to happen.

At this point it is subjective because I have kept the rpms below 4K (1900 miles on the Odometer) and have not gone WOT on the car yet. When I leave for work at 3am and I am alone on the highway there is a good stretch of straight road for 4 miles and I slowly bring the car up to 95-98mph (3500-3700rpm) to help with the rings to properly seat and then ease it back down to 65mph (2000-2100rpm).

At 1900 miles, your rings are seated and your engine is broken in enough to go up to red line/WOT. Have fun!

Once my car hit 1k miles, I stopped keeping the engine below 4k. No oil/coolant consumption issues. Engine runs very smooth.

I did my first oil change at 1700 miles, FWIW.

lol after 1K, i found out the true sportiness of the impreza. none were found. maybe a tiny amount. but yeah i would pound on the gas petal to break the car in.

OK, give this a try:

Get on the highway at 60 mph, driving behind someone. Downshift from 5th directly to 3rd (this will put you at 4500 rpm, if you have a stick), and then pass.

I find the car has plenty of power if driven "aggressively" in this way (and it's not really that aggressive; the car stays comfortably away from red line).

I can imagine that it might be harder to find the sportiness with the CVT, although I don't know because I've never driven one. Maybe with the paddles you can find a CVT's sportiness too.

Did your S2000 have a stick? If so, why didn't you get a stick in the Impreza?

yeah the S2000 only comes in a stick. well i kept the S2000 and i needed a family car that my lady could drive as well. she cant drive stick. i tried teaching. its hard to make/have a family in the S2000. i tried telling my lady that the depression in the trunk could fit a car seat properly, but i guess my argument wasnt good enough.

2 things added recently that I am really happy about

1. DDM HID Kit Slim Ballast 35W 5000k (No Flickering)

2. Muffler delete. (I was hesitant at first on how it would sound) After a couple of days I have gotten used to it and it sounds as though you have some turbo under the hood (but not really)
