Default Anyone lose interest in modifying their car?

not saying modifying cars in general, but for example my car is an 02 and its getting pretty beat up on the outside and the engine/trans is getting old and worn. i love cars, and even though i have other priorities, i have kinda lost interest in modifying it. i think "well its old, it'll be gone in a while, is it worth doing anything?" anyone else get that way?

I for one am just sick of dealing with the high prices of maintenance and wrx's in general being fragile cars. Cars were my life a few years ago and I was the happiest person alive when I first got my subaru but after 4 or so years of owning it I am ready to move on. I have a serious love/hate relationship with it but am just sick of dealing with all the bull****. I need a truck for work anyway and I am just ready for something different. So yeah I feel ya.

I got tired of modifying cars in general I think. I did a few things to the Mazda when I got it but I think all the work I put into my Civic just took it out of me.

I moved over to RC Cars, hahaha.

Yeah, biiiig time.

I'm looking at a newer car again and, from reports, anything with a 2.0 or 2.5 is pretty much destined to end up with cracked heads, leaking head gaskets, or spun bearings.

Guess I'll stick with 2.2s or something.

I'm with this guy ^^

Travis, what you need is a reliable car for driving every day, then you can justify spending money on the wrx. That's why I bought a corolla... but it's still stock lol.

Modifying cars is a really expensive hobby. Realistically it's a waste of money.

After having just lost (totaled by drunk driver) a car I put so much time, money and love into... It just doesn't seem worth it to do anything more than maintain and drive it.

My current car has even more potential than that one did, but I have little motivation to do anything to it now. Then again, I just bought a house so my priorities have changed. I guess this is "growing up" and hopefully I'll get back into tinkering with my cars in the future.

Yep, that's when I sell them. I happen to do the same to girlfriends.

I go through "car of the week" all the time. I have "DONTNKOWWHATTHEHELLIWANTOSIS" real bad. No cure. In the last 10 years, I've owned 2 civics, a 94 Mustang and my 02 WRX. I've done mostly maintenance to my WRX. Bought it with 115k. It needed tires, rear bearings/hubs, wiring to get the JDM headlights to work right, battery, starter, and clutch/start switch. I think I've spent about $2000 in just maintenance in the last 1.5 years. Now it has 145k miles, needs new fluids all around, brakes soon and tires again. The mods I've done are wheels, homemade wood shiftknob, swapped for an STi trunk/wing and that's it.
Part of me wants to just drive it, save my money and pick up an BRZ/FR-S. Otherwise, sell it and pick up an AE86 or something JNC, or continue to the next stage with the WRX, Coilovers, sway bars, go wider tire, camber adjustment and minor brake upgrade when I need to do them this year and respray the front end and get some kind of front lip. So, I'm in a holding pattern, trying to figure out what I really wanna do.

My subaru got to the point where it was ready for the EG swap but I was afraid of having it down for an extended time so I decided to buy another car. But I didn't pick the best option, I got distracted a little. I bought a rwd convertible, not the best family or winter car. Maybe next summer I'll get to the engine swap in the subaru. but I love my new car and I can't stop researching parts and finding stuff for it now I want to do an engine swap in the Datsun too.

I blame this modern age of "stages."

There used to be a million different parts from hundreds of different companies to rice out your Civic to your heart's desire. Now there are only a handfull of companies offering the same few parts, so that everyones modified car is basically the same as everyone elses except with different wheels (unless you spend thousands of dollars to make a track car).

Personally, I'm at the point where I think I'd rather just have a nice Tacoma or Wrangler Unlimited that I can take camping, skiing, and anything else I will ever need.

So wait.......you mean to tell me there are only a handful of mods that you can do to Subarus?????? I think there are more aftermarket options for Subies than 90% of other cars.

I would venture to guess that disposable income = desire to modify car.

How many of the people "losing interest" have spent over $5,000 in car modifications or could spend that much in the next 6 months?
