Catless up-pipe

I purchased a used AP v1, i use OTS stage 2 - 93 octane map.

I looked into getting an eTune by clark turner and/or protune at IAG performance, both tuners said cobb doesn't support v1 and its untunable.

How did they tune it back when?

Can't i just get the map from another car with the same bolt-on mods?

AP v1 doesn't work on the newer models, '07 and up...

My car is a 2002, surely there was another bugeye in the last ten years that ran the same bolt-on mods equipped with an AP v1 which had a tuned map for that setup.

I want to find that dude. Maybe he can help me out.

Its seems anyone in the tuning business would rather see me upgrade to v2. Especially that dude bill from cobb. During my forum search he posts that everywhere. I understand the v2 logs data and is more capable than v1, which brings me back to v1's value in the year 2012.

How much is it worth? About $200 if you trade it in to Cobb.

Cobb no longer provides support for the Version 1 Accessport, which means they won't be doing any more firmware or software updates to continue to improve the product.

Don't quote me, but it is likely that the newest version of Tuning Software by Cobb no longer supports the Version 1 Accessport as well, so they have essentially made it obsolete. Like all the tuners have said, your best bet would be to trade it in to Cobb for a brand new V2, which has more bells and whistles, and significantly more support.

I didn't mean cash value, i was leaning towards the benefit of the AP v1.

I understand tuners aren't using it today.

I just want to find "someone" who had custom maps made back in the day when AP v1 was the standard. That "someone" who have had the same setup as my bugeye.

It should be as simple as emailing AP file, uploading it to my AP hardware and reflashing my ECU.

No?

No, most pro-tunes are locked and even if it wasn't, while possible to use I still wouldn't use someone else's pro-tuned maps as every car is different... COBBS OTS maps would actually be better as then you would still have some safety built into the tune...

You APv1 is still perfectly fine of OTS tunes of earlier models. If you have a custom tune already loaded on it then even better. IF you needed a custom tune today you would be out of luck. The protune software used by tuners today only works with the APv2. So to do your etune if you plan to stick with cobb I would suggest checking with them for the trade up offer and factor that into your decision.

I would be a little nervous taking someone elses custom APv1 tune even if it is the same mods as all cars run differently and given the age and mileage of the car. Many custom tunes are not going to be as conservative as an OTS tune and could cause you problems.

There may still be some tuners out there for the APv1 "accesstuner"? It allowed people to tune their own AP v1...

I don't think he can do an etune without having a copy of that software AND the usb dongle key. The APv1 alone had no logging abilities.

You are right, but he CAN get a pro-tune with it if he can find/buy an old accesstuner, someone could probably tune his car with it...

Get the newer AP, then get a pro tune, or just get a base map for that setup from a tuner that will allow you to drive the car in to get a pro tune.

Need a working link for the Trade-in program, anyone? The link to the Cobb website in this thread as well as the links to the Trade-in program on the Cobb forums are broken. Would like to upgrade my V1, thanks.

bumping an old thread, didn't want to make a new one. Anyone still using the AP V1? I have a chance to pick one up for $150 obo. All I'm really looking to do is flash a stage 1 map, maybe even stage 2.

"V1-
Limited memory for mapping, especially for tuning the 2.5L cars
No recovery mode in the case of failed flash
It can read/clear CEL's "

PS, i used to have the V2 back in 2008/2009 before i parted out my car so I know bells and whistles it has, right now I'm just looking to flash a map and forget it.

I use a V1 for my bugeye. Stage 2 93oct OTS Map.

I have an HKS catless UP; Invidia catless TBE; K&N drop-in filter; Mishimoto Radiator; Perrin Silicone Inlet & hoses all around.

I have 153k on the clock, so its plenty good for my old b¡Tch. I make 15lbs of boost at 3500rpm.

Even if its not enough power for you, it will work for now, then Cobb will give you $200.oo for a trade-in for V2, so you'll make money later, while you increase your performance now.

Besides what you already listed, data logging capability for the AP v2 is probably the biggest benefit. Often these older cars have issues with aging MAF and front o2 sensors, intake tract leaks, etc. It makes it very convenient to be able to data log at any time from the AccessPORT (you can keep it in your glove box) and a lot of times you can uncover mechanical issues by monitoring long-term fuel trims as well more accurately monitor boost levels during your runs. Without data logging, often you won't know there's a problem until it is really bad. For example, fuel trims won't trigger an check engine light until you've gone beyond +/- 15% for your car. But well below that can indicate a potential problem.

Also, we have completely new maps for 02-05 WRX (v310) that are only available for the AP v2. They have improved driveability and consistency. There are a number of changes to the maps which would not be possible to do with the AP v1's limited memory.

I had a V1 and traded it in for the V2. There's no comparison between the two meaning that the V2 is far better and faster than the V1. The V2 has so many nice features that the V1 doesn't have, it's just a better unit all the way around.

Sorry to threadjack, but since we're on the topic...I have a V1 for my 06, i believe it was tuned on a V1 by the previous owner right before the V2 was released. I'm doubtful i will ever be able to track down the tuner, but the tune is basically perfect for my car. I've been toying with the idea of trading in for a V2, but how would i retain the map?

If you have the actual map files for the custom tune for the v1, we can actually convert these to the v2 format on a case-by-case basis.

V1 APs can still be used. I have one and still get new maps from PDX Tuning. Just got some this week in fact after PnP IM, PnP TB, TGV Delete, 8mm Phenolics.

PDX tuning will tune w/ V1 AP? Cool, just searched internet and found their site. I guess i gotta figure out a way to data log. Tactrix cable, open source logging

Yup they sure do bud. Also you can use the V1 cable plugged into your laptop and running RomRaider to log. Ask PDX which parameters they want you to log too.
