Default BD/BG mid-pipe options

Over the years, my exhaust has become more and more kludged together. The mid-pipe on the car now is from the full MRT exhaust that I installed years ago. A couple/few years ago, while I was stationed in WA, I took the car to the local Midas/Meineke and asked them to add a nice, big resonator to the mid-pipe to tone the exhaust down a bit. Mission accomplished, but unfortunately the guy doing the work elected to remove the flange between the mid-pipe and the Stromung axle-back and just weld everything together. I didn't catch that until later.

I'd like to get the system back to being a separate mid-pipe and axle-back, just to make it easier to work on / replace things in the future. As it stands now, I'm pretty sure I would have to remove the driver's side rear axle and the lateral links to remove the muffler! I really don't want to put an original mid-pipe on, as I'd like to keep the larger diameter that I'm running now. (I seem to recall the stock mid-pipe was tiny, like the rest of the stock exhaust; what I have now is 2.25" or 2.5".) At the same time, I'd like to get the Stromung axle-back back into a "stock" configuration so I can pass it along to someone else when the time comes without having to worry about reclocking the flange.

So, are there any easy options, or is the only option a stock or stock-replacement mid-pipe? I believe the WRX mid-pipes have the flange clocked differently, right? The Impreza mid-pipes are too short, right?

Thanks,
Pat Olsen

I've got an appt tomorrow for almost the exact same thing. My midpipe has rusted out so I'm going to have a shop throw in a generic resonator. To be honest, I don't even know where the current post-WRX-swap midpipe came from (STi I think?).

I think (and could be wrong) the midpipes are interchangeable between the Leggy and Impreza. At least on my car, it was only the muffler section that had to be lengthened to make it fit. I'm almost sure the rest of the exhaust was from various Impreza's.

Not sure if this helps at all

Well, the Legacy's wheelbase is ~4" longer than the Impreza's, so I think the mid-pipe has to be longer on the Legacy. All the pics I've seen of the axle-backs for both models look like they terminate at the same point next to the rear diff.

But I could be wrong, too.
