WDCR's final event which is the second event in the "November Mid-Atlantic Rallycross Triple Crown" is nearing. There have been some grumblings about a special prize for someone that competes and wins his/her class in all 3 region's events.

Registration is now open for our 7th and final event at Summit Point on 11/11:

nix.....I'd rather lose than be handed a win.

But you should run in MR at Summit on the 11th....all the RWD guys should

I actually have other plans the weekend of the Kempton event already, else I might consider going.

So I've been wanting to try out Rally cross at one of these events but am curious about possible damage because of it being off-road. I've taken my car to a PDX at summit point before , but I haven't seen the rally cross course, is it pretty bumpy? Will I be bottoming out, or scratching up my front bumper?

^^^ Not that it's the smartest thing to do, but I run without a skid plate. I have one, I just haven't had time to put it up. In 2 years, I've never had a problem. Maybe I'm just not trying hard enough though...

The bumpers on the GE/GH/GR's are um, not attached well from the factory. If you don't have a skidplate, I would supplement the crappy OEM fasteners with some duct tape. Works like a charm. I may or may not be speaking from experience...

If you're stock height, you'll be fine. We have plenty of cars running without skids. Hell, we had a guy with a brand-new bone-stock Audi A4 running on his factory 18s and all-season tires, and he didn't do anything to the car other than get it muddy.

Really the only way you're going to damage the car rallycrossing is if you're driving the **** out of it and disregarding the terrain (as some of us with dedicated rallycross cars do). But you won't drive it like that, so you'll be fine.

Hell, even Stuart/Spencer ran a few events in their e30 with no skid. And M42 e30 oil pans sit LOOOOOOOW and are known to crack easily. And they didn't hit the pan, even though they were all over the course (and off the course) all the time.

True. Other option is just remove the front clip and drive without it at the event. That guy with the STi did that a couple times. Technically it takes you out of stock class, but nobody is going to care.

^Doing at least two of the three...

Last time I talked to Paul, the Kempton event is supposed to be in the grass lot, rather than down on the "track portion". One would think that it should be fairly smooth. Game plan as of now is to drive the rally car up Sunday morning from Newark.

PA the state or the class? Either way, both apply to me

I'll be at all 3, but not competing at Kempton.

I was referring to the class but I can imagine there is quite some overlap!

The courses are set up so they're stock car friendly. The majority of our courses are pretty smooth, but there will be a few bumps here and there. Identify those areas on the drive-through and just "take it easy" for those areas. You can drive as hard or as soft as you want to.

It's true, the newer model bumpers are rather poorly fixed- if you're worried about scratches tape 'em up or take 'em off. I'd just take 'em off when you get there. Also, you may consider taping up your fenders and body around the wheel wells if you're concerned about scratches. Get a roll of 2" wide blue painters tape.

Be sure to review the supplemental regulations found here: http://www.wdcr-scca.org/Portals/0/R...-2-12-2012.pdf

Looking forward to meeting you
