So basically you had a ****ty group leader? Did you print out the notes Garret linked? Because they were fantastically well organized, better than I have ever seen in ANY other meet.

All the notes in the world won't help if you aren't from Austin and have absolutely no idea where things are or where you are going. My point is that it not being a race turned into a race to the tetco. I was one of the last 3-4 cars out of the BBQ parking lot. By the time I made the right out of the parking lot, there were no cars in the cruise visible save for the couple behind me. If it wasn't really a race, no one should have gotten left behind or lost and decide to go home. I did make it to the tetco and joined in with the last group and still had a blast. I will definitely go to the next one.

First off I want to tip my hat to the organizing of this cruise, that goes 100% to Garrett, he did a FANTASTIC job at organizing and pulling off this event!!! All the props in the world to him for all that he did.
Having helped to organize events and meets in the past one thing that will always be there is "you can't please everyone all of the time!". There are people that want to cruise and stop to smell the roses, and those that want to power through every apex. Likewise there are those that want to be as prepared as possible and do all their homework and there are others that want to show up and make the best of it. I've found trying to mesh those different extremes is an organizers NIGHTMARE!
Since there is not really anyone getting paid to plan these, you have to remember you are in essence getting what you paid for.
I rode the route before hand and took notes because I knew I was going to be leading a group and it sux to get lost, unfortunately I had to give my notes to another group from out of town so we took a couple wrong turns along the way, and to me that ruined it a bit for me. I can only imagine if I would have had to circle back around every time someone got lost on the route. But I'm of the planning and powering through every apex extreme.
I think at the end of the day it was a fantastic event and am sorry to hear that some ppl didn't make it the whole way through! I almost wrote off the rest of the route to run through Kendalia Rd a few times, and just might head out to Blanco this weekend for that.
Hope it works out to do it again soon and maybe a few more hands involved would make it less stressful for the out of town-ers.

Big thanks to Garret, Arthur, and the group leaders. This is always a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to the next one later this year.

Let me know if you do that (you have my number) - I would love to run it this weekend. We can use my place as a "staging area"

Post it up! There were far to many cameras out there to have these few results IMO.

there's a few sequels on the back burner it seems. I thought I had lost my windshield mount so I didn't get to film any. That night, I found it under my passenger seat.

I don't f-f-f-f-fool when it comes to driving my subie the 1st sounds good to me. Got an early meeting at work that'll be done by 10ish so a nice drive out through the hills is a perfect way to unwind after.

My girlfriend and I are doing the hill country cruise route tomorrow with a couple of stops at some wineries. I created a map below.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=...eb05facd&msa=0

If you want to use it to navigate on your smartphone then save it to your "Google - My Places" on your PC and use the Google Earth app on your phone to view it.

I'll do a gpx later.

If anyone is out and about in the area tomorrow let me know!

Did you guys have fun? I'd love to give it a go, but it's a bit of a drive for me.
