Default my 02 bugeye project

Here are some pics of my 2002 wrx wagon that the head gasket blew out on, on my way to Denver in march. I have decided to do most of the work my self and try top save a few bucks. Some one on here has offered to sell me a rebuilt 2.5 SB with all new internals, "It has Pauter Rods, Probe pistons and a knife edged crank, fully balanced. The pistons were custom for WRX heads, they bring the compression ratio down to 8.2. The block was built with ACL race bearings is O-ringed and comes with ARP head studs" that's the description I was given, and for 2200$ I think I'm going to get it.
The car will hopefully make it over to the body shop so I can paint it sometime this week.

I got the body work almost done, just need to sand the roof and bumpers, and scuff the door jambs, I will be purchasing a SB on Tuesday and looking for someone to machine my heads as soon a possible, and with any luck have some cash left over to order a new turbo, fuel system, and exhaust manifold. I'm looking for about 16-20psi and 300 hp and suggestions?

The project is moving along, I bought a welder last week so that I can fix the 1/4s my self, and I should have most of my parts in by the end of this week, early next week. Hopefully my heads wont be at the shop for to long so that I can start putting the motor back together and have it ready for when the car is done being painted. I bought a VIS carbon hood for 150.00 because the gel coat was cracked, the hood itself was in great shape so I sanded down the cracks and filled them in with primer and it looks like the hood will look fine once I paint it, luckily the scoop was in good shape so I will not have to paint it. I did however find out that my turbo is on its way out and has some shaft play so I will have to save up some more cash and buy a new one, I think I will end up getting the blouch td05, pink injectors, and walbro FP, that combo seems pretty standard for this type of build.

I just ordered a td05 16g, gimmick fmic, and a fast motorsports stealth down pipe. So assuming my engine comes in late this week, and I get my heads back from the machine shop, I may be putting this motor back together soon.

I have decided to paint my intake manifold. I want to sand the whole thing down a bit and and paint it copper here is a sample spot I did last night.[IMG][/IMG]

Does anyone have any advise on how to clean up the look of the intake? All the wires and brackets seam to me, to be just sloped on there.

I received my SB yesterday, and now I am waiting on getting my heads back form the machine shop, and I still need new head bolts because apparently the block was tapped for 1.5 threads. so in the mean time I am debating on weather or not I want to do a tgv delete. Its seams that while everything is apart and the car will need a tune anyways now is the time to do it.

Update time. The guy who was going to let me use his paint booth sold his compressor, so I am stuck with a sanded down car for right now until I can find a booth. The machine shop that has my heads called this week and told me they were warped pretty bad, so I located another pair on here and might have them with in a week or two. And in the mean time I am just trying to keep busy with doing little things until I can start bolting thew motor back together.

Build is looking great, love the finish on the intake. What are your goals/what other plans do you have in store?

Thanks, I was real happy with how the intake came out to. As far as goals, I want to try and reach 300hp but I will probably tune it down so not to harm the trans before I can afford an upgrade. The big hold up right now is paint, the guy who was going to let me paint my car at his shop pretty much screwed me over, so I may just prime it in the garage for now just to get it on the road. Oh yeah, I also am looking in to doing a reverse manifold.

UPdate; My new heads are in the machine shop, I am currently trying to convert to side feed (don't ask) and I have to figure out how I am going to paint my car. I am thinking that I will just paint it single stage white to save time and money, and save me from freaking out every time dog jumps up on the car. I am also hoping to enlist the help of a friend of a friend to get the heads bolted up once there out of the machine shop.

I'm back. I have the engine up in cleveland getting built right now, and I am currently in the purposes of dismantling the suspension and brakes. I am 50/50 on weather or not I want to do a forester lift or keep it stock height. I and also researching all the info I need on deleting the abs, then removing the air conditioning, and relocating the alternator so that I can run a reverse manifold. Well that's it for now I will post pics of any progress soon.

I got all the shocks and struts out, and all the a/c stuff from the engine compartment tonight, and started on the abs. Hopefully in the morning with better light I will be able to see to start pulling all the brake lines out and start measuring to see how much braided stainless line I need. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow
