With that said, this was an easy Subscribe/Bookmark. The links to the tutorials/installs is enough to sticky this whole thing. You really are putting a lot of quality and workmanship back into this website.

Any ideas on where you are going with this next?
Wow, thanks man it means a lot!

For the next plans... Hmmm, who knows? I always say this is my last mod for a while but I always lie about that. Somehow I find little things to do. I did just order more Alcantara for some different pieces that are less known to be covered. It's an experiment so it might not make it on the internet if it fails, lol. Other then that I'm working on a new shift indicator illumination mod!

Wow, I would think that technology in the past 8 years would have changed for the better but the prices became super cheap (which is nice) but the quality of design and features are terrifying.

The old F1 Status Alpine and Stage 4 Pioneer units are great but also trying to get pure sound quality out of the interior of a Subaru is quite a challenge because of the cabin/wind noise. Unless you only listen to your radio with the car stationary and engine off, you loose the point of having an incredible head unit driving your system.

So I feel I would be left with the choice to go for one of the standard level setups and have enough headroom in the volume to drown out the cabin noise with music but without my ears bleeding at that volume level, make any sense?
Yeah it is frustrating. That is why I use the Pioneer X930BT as the source unit. It comes as the factory nav on the Canadian version of our cars so it looks factory. The processing is handled by the JBL MS-8. The mids are Hertz 165XL with matched tweeter and the 3" midranges are Tang Band Bamboo's. Hertz HDP4's for power and the Audio Integrations hatch box housing a JLW3 10" in the hatch. Keeps the premium look while having the premium sound. The rest of everything out there just looks rice in my opinion. I love the Pioneer SQ deck but I wanted double din.

I didn't know that about the Pioneer x930, that makes me feel better about a good headunit that is as close to OEM as possible. The rest of your audio build is fantastic. I'm a sucker for A/D/S components but they've become extinct since I bough my last set in '98 but the Hertz seem like a nice comparable loud speaker. I'm going to look into them more, and possibly start dreaming up a new system.

The nice thing about the Pioneer is the UX and the fact you can change the buttons to the exact red as our interiors. Looks like it belongs there.

I'm pretty sold on the head unit, it's really nice for the price and looks clean in the dash. It weird though... I've been an Alpine user for life, it's like making the switch to Canon from Nikon, I would feel like a trader into the dark side

Haha, yeah they are quite expensive but they are an authorized dealer. You can find the head unit on clearance for $599, but now I have my eyes on the
AVIC-Z140BH, hehe!

Since you are referring to the Pioneer X930BT, I have it and love it!
Looks oem and as mentioned the colors of the buttons can be set to the dash colors.
I'd definitely recommend it..

Quick question, can the factory steering wheel controls still be used?

BTW, AWESOME THREAD!

Thanks man!!
Most of the controls will continue to work if you use the ASWC, volume, mode, up, down. The Bluetooth functions on the lower controller can be re-assigned to be other functions like seek and mute but won't control BT functions anymore. It's not the ASWC's fault., it's just a different language then the headunit speaks.

Tried out covering a new piece that I haven't seen done before. I think it makes a big difference to the wheel. It's about as good as the stock wheel is going to get before I possibly switch it out in the future.

I am a die hard Alpine fan but unfortunetly they have been going down hill for years and years! I curently have the INA-W910, PXA-H100 (which sucks, my H710 was so much better), CDT braxial w/upstage front kit, alpine coax rear, JL 10W3V3 and the new alpine pdx-V9 (much better than the PDX-5 was).

I just bought the PXA-H800 to see if I can get any better sound if not Alpine is gone for me!!

I've always said when I do change the headunit that it will be Alpine because I never would think to put anything else up against it. The W505 was the last unit I bought in my Audi and it served it's purpose but I really don't think they have put an ounce of thought into their products in the past 10 years.
The Pioneer line has got my attention for the time being and I'll probably go with the AVIC-Z140BH. It'll just be something to put in there but it's not a unit that I will drool over. I still feel that you are getting a lot for your money compared to what you used to have to spend, but the quality and value has completely changed. These units are jam-packed with so much low quality features instead of a simple high-quality, high-resolution unit.

i too am an alpine nut, and i agree after seeing what they have to release lately, it made me totally regret selling my alpine stuff that i carried over from three or four cars LOL. sold it cause i wanted to go with a more oem look with this subie and i just assumed there would be bigger and better things especially since my setup was aging. i miss it, especially dva 9861, pxa h701 with rux, and mrv f540, with just those three pieces, i was set .

Man, now that I look back at my Alpine history. It's been a long Journey:

Going back 18 years here so it may be slightly out of order

That wheel looks awesome! I would be a little worried about that whole piece hitting me in the face if the airbag deploys though. At least it will be nice soft Alcantara flying at you with the force of a boxer's fist, haha

Hahaha, I didn't think it was fair to only have the passenger get punched in the face with Alcantara so I decided I should make a cover for myself, lol

Thanks for the Laugh!

how do you like the prosport gauges? I hear a lot of negative discussion about them and was wondering if you have had any problems?

I like them, I haven't had a problem with them at all but in all honesty I don't really use them for anything but a quick reference. Boost in the only thing I'm interested in knowing and even if it's a little off, it'll still tell me what I need to know.
For the price, they are perfect for my needs. They look great, match the dash well and are really smooth. The premium series I had at first were noisy but the new 60mm gauges are really quiet.
