Thanks for stopping by man!!
I went through the same thing when I was looking to buy mine. It finally came down to my location. Black is not a good color at all in Maine. Winters are tough and I know there are a lot places like that but the problem is that even though they clean the streets it's impossible to keep the dust and salt down being on the coast. My co-worker has a black wrx that he got in August and the salt has taken such a beating to the car in 7 months, even when it's washed it still looks like he tried to to wipe it with steel wool.

So, if your in Maine, I'd stay away

Where are you going for the tune? Hopefully you are running 93 octane... I was hoping for 300+ with the setup I have now but fell way short on 91oct and on a Mustang Dyno.
I'm heading back over EFI during the Easter holiday to do an e85 tune, Then I better hit 300!

Good luck with the tune. Also do you have a build thread here?

Cheers!

- Jason
I don't have a build thread on here, I'm getting my tune from Jarrad at PDX tuning (www.pdxtuning.com). I'm in hawaii and he's flying in next weekend to do a bunch of tunes for subarus. I'm running on 92 oct that's the best they got in hawaii, Next year i get out of the army though and will be moving back to cali so i'll be stuck with 91 oct lol.

That's all good, I'm on 91 here in Maine. It was tough to hit 300 on 91 with a mustang dyno. It depends on a lot though, good luck and let me know how you do!!

Overland, it's great to see another Maine enthusiast on the forums! I saw another post asking you to come over to MainelySubarus.com for a local "Subaru" community, have you decided to check it out recently? I am positive they wouldn't mind having you as a member, and obviously to one of our "meet and greets".

Great looking Subaru, I like the taste and choice in mods... I wish my '09 had your flared fenders and quad-tip exhaust! ...jealous

Hey Man, thank you for such kind words. I appreciate you stopping by my thread!
I'll be active on the MainlySubaru site soon, I browse a lot but haven't been very active because of how busy NASIOC has been to me over the last couple months. I'd hate to double post a lot of my write-ups but I think if had to write two original threads I would be spend half my day on forums...

I'm really excited to meet some locals in person. I hope once the weather turns I can finally make it out to some meets.

I look forward to chatting soon!

Cheers mate!

So, it's time... e85, EFI Logics, Mustang Dyno, April 7th, 9:30am. Lets see what this Turbo can really do!

I'm just curious to how much I can get out of the car and EFI is doing both a 93 and e85 map for a incredibly good price!

(and I got word that it's in the works for early summer here in Maine, yay!)

Thats awesome! I live in the agriculture center of CA and will probably never see e85 readily available. Question now is maxing out those 850's

I think he 850's will be the ending point for the VF52... I don't think it'll be possible to squeeze anymore air out of the turbo and fuel out of the injectors. I think it's the perfect set-up to get as much as possible out of the stock turbo. So really I'm doing it just to know that whatever reading I get next month, will give me the final answer what my car will do with the VF-52. I would hate to upgrade to a 2.5 Dominator or 20gXTR and never know what the max of the stock turbo was for a couple hundred dollars.

I see, thats a great idea for reference, I would definetely love to now that information as well. Just to clarify the 91 map is pretty maxd out? or slightly less aggressive? Im seeing a 2.5 in my horizon as well. But over at jockegolf's build thread he had oiling issues. Are you planning on putting the DOM 2.5 on your stock engine or planning any engine upgrades?

My 91 map is relatively conservative just because it'll be my go to for 90% of my daily driving and could be used as a safety net for anyone that might borrow my car, it's pretty solid.
I'm definitely surprised that someone has an oil issue with the 2.5, that would be a first for me... I've heard nothing but an A+ rating on the turbo. Hopefully it was a user error or a serious beating going on.
I will say that the internals will stay stock, I've built too many blocks in my past to want to go down that road again. I'll do a clutch if needed in the future but my driving style is so soft that I can't see pulling the motor anytime within the next couple years.
I would like to have the safety of solid pistons/rods/crank but after the motor is opened up, i'm done. I'll be trying to pawn off my kidneys for engine parts... I'm like a recovering HP junkie
Hopefully the e85 on vf52 goes well enough to hold my urge to buy the 2.5 until next year.

"pawning kidneys, HP junkie" lol, thats great. I too have heard nothing but great things about the DOM 2.5. I believe jockeygolf spun a rod bearing. We can only assume what caused the failure though, driven hard or beaten, redlined, etc. But Im getting the feeling we drive pretty similar and if your WOTing or redlining frequently engine life obviously decreases. Just like xluben a bigger than stock turbo can survive, granted supporting mods, exceptional tune and conservative driving styles.
So huh, when are we going to see that boost controller and TMIC tutorial?lol

Opps... Maybe tomorrow, if forgot

Big snow storm hitting the area so it'll be a nice day off for me!

Also, I removed the hybrid setup on the EBCS/MBC. I've never been made fun of so badly by a turner in my life for running a forum "must have".
He said if I could find a spike in his map curve that he'll pay for my tune. I tried to explain all the benefits but didn't get far once we removed it and I saw his rough tune curve, it was smooth as could be and found no need for the MBC to be in there. So now I have a $90 paper weight.

i'm sure no one doubts overland's tutorials are exceptional, but grimmspeed has a great youtube tutorial for their boost controller. if you can't install it using their video you probably shouldn't. maybe overland can save some time making a ebcs tutorial and spend that time making more snow drift videos just sayin...

I ordered a base SWP WRX a week and a half ago as a birthday present to myself and your car is exactly what I've been picturing my car to be. It'll definitely be my inspiration since I also plan to just have it be my daily driver. I'll definitely check back and use your writeups in the future!

Sorry I used a different username. Yes, this will actually be my first Subaru. My last car was a Honda, and I've always wanted a WRX since one of my friends got one in 2002. I can't wait!

Actually, in terms of power mods, I want to keep it as stock as possible, but I'm sure I'll eventually be bitten by the bug like everyone else has been here haha. I love the clean and simple approach you've taken so far.

So true.... So true.... Hahaha!

I took a break form the car scene for almost 10 years when I got my Audi in 2002. Then as I was leaving the dealership with the WRX, I was already ordering stuff before I got home. It's a sickness...
