trouble starting, help!

ok here is whats going on, when i go to start my car (1995 impreza) it will start sometimes and run good but when i stop, like go into the store and come out 15 to 30 minutes later it wont start, ill have to push start it, its cranks just fine just wont start, and sometimes if i leave it over night it will start without any questions.....any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it?

Cam/crank sensor most likely. Check for stored codes to be sure which one it is.

Hook up. Test connectors under dash and get the code number. Remember long flash is worth 10 and short flash worth 1. I believe the codes for cam and crank are 11 and 13. You could also pull the cam and crank sensors and clean them.

ive had someone tell me it could be the o ring on the distributor

If your being serious - perhaps you should also check your blinker fluid.

Follow the instructions to do an ECU reset. When you do an ECU reset it will do a diagnostic and give you any existing trouble codes via blinking CEL light. The format is pretty simple. Long blinks are worth 10 and short blinks are worth 1. For instance if it gave you two long blinks followed by two short blinks that would be code 22, three long blinks followed by two short blinks would be code 32.

You can either tell us what codes you pull or you can look them up yourself.

I don't think you read his post closely

If he pushes the car and it starts fine its the age old problem all Subaru develop - bad contacts on the starter solenoid.

chancellor6869 : You can replace the contacts but its a pain in the butt. Just get a remanufactured starter. You are not the only person with this problem. Its more common than wheel bearing failures! It is funny someone told you to check the distributor. I hope he wasn't looking under the hood when he said that
