Default Subaru 'Fuel Injection System Service'

The Subaru Canada Maintenance guide says that every 48,000 Kms I should have my fuel injection system serviced. What exactly do they do? Can I do it myself? Cheers

Wow I'm surprised.... nobody knows? Can't be that essential if nobody even knows what it is. I guess I'll call the dealer, I think they quoted me about $100.00

Is this "guide" in your owners manual or something you got from your dealer? This type of service is a typical dealer add-on, along with engine and coolant flushes, that does little for the car but makes the dealer more money when you go in for service.
For $100 it's probably a service where they connect a pressurized cleaning agent directly to the fuel system and run it through the injectors. Unless you having symptoms that point toward the injectors being dirty or clogged, it is unnecessary. Regular use of good quality detergent fuel is enough to maintain the cleanliness of the system.

It's a fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank, then a liquid gets sucked through the intake to clean the intake plenum and valves, and then the throttle body gets scrubbed.

I don't try to sell them unless there's an idle quality issue, although I suppose adding it as routine maintenance should prevent buildup.

Yes it's actually listed as a scheduled maintenance item on the Subaru Canada website... I think they want me to do it every 48,000 KMs which equals 30 000 miles. Whatever, I'm going to get the Subaru Injector cleaner from Infamous Performance and just follow the instructions on the bottle.
