Default Subiefest 2012 @El Toro

I was astro traveling in an orange balloon today and had a thought.

Based on participating and spectating at many events at El Toro (ex)naval base, I came to thinking that Subiefest 2012 could do better than Pomona.

Knowing that tv, us gov, national/local racing and now today.. commercial for Porsche. Utilizing the main runway, this was place has POTENTIAL!

They had it set-up with a small AX type course including a 2-3 min large track for higher speeds. Seems like a safe set-up with basically minimal workers. How do they do it?

Pirelli tire truck, 3 food trucks, grooming tents......must be nice.

That'd be a great idea now if they would let us park with our friends that'd make subiefest even better

i love this idea...el toro is an awesome venue, freaking massive and local. OC is in the middle of everything, SD, LA, and the IE.

I don't care where they have it! I just wish it would be organized, and ran better. The 1 hour line to park, the lack of food vendors, the wander around feeling. The "should be soon" M.O. was a let down.
But Yes, Preacher is right. The Great Park project in Orange would be the best spot. lots of room, tracks allready laid out.
Sunny OC !!!!!
Maybe another team could do a Subie event?

I agree with both of these. One of the best parts of subiefest is the caravan and being able to park with your friends. I hated the fact that they split up our whole caravan and had us park in separate areas. It defeated the purpose of even caravaning in the first place. Organization could have definitely been improved upon. No one seemed to know what was going, I got sent to 5 different workers before I found out right info on the skid pad

With all that being said, I agree with preacher. El Toro sounds like a great venue and I don't mind the extra drive

More power to ya, but I think it's going to be mighty hard to get a weekend date.
I don't know how much the Fairgrounds charge, but I bet Subiefest organizers will be in for a bit of sticker shock when it come time to negotiate.

Does that mean you don't want to come?

Making a profit on an event like this is possible. Just needs to be planned right. Also, finding a weekend in October shouldn't be too challenging, considering most the competitive events are done by then.

Dangitt...I knew that didn't sound right. Will NOT make mistake again.

The idea of small track and big track...using the majority of the main runway (top right of pic)...seems like a decent concept IMO.
Or just one large one....limiting the aspect of confusion that sometimes occurs at these type of events.

If you think you have what it takes to organize a new team and make it happen, then do it. I have a feeling a lot of people on here don't know what goes into planning an event of this magnitude.
Over 2,000 attendees. When you have an event with that many people and nothing goes wrong let everyone know because I'm sure that will be the event of the century. Until then I say just enjoy that there are people out there that work there butts off trying to plan an event for everyone to enjoy because no one else will. Be grateful and respectful people. Please.

P.S. Can we stop beating the already way dead horse about the food and water issue? It has already been clarified that it wasn't subiefest's neglect. It was the venues responsibility and they dropped the ball. Thank you.
