Default Not getting full boost (EJ20G, AVCR)

Relevant parts

PowerFC
AVCR
EJ20G IWG
td05-16g
95 WRX EJ20G
BKR7e Coppers .028 gap
wrx coilpacks

So suddenly my car is no longer boosting 1.3 bar, but rather only around .7-.8. I've checked all of the lines and everything is still setup correctly. Did a sensor check and the boost solenoid is still working. AVCR is on with target boost @ 1.3bar and all of the duty cycle numbers still inputed (i.e. it wasn't turned off by accident). What should I do? Is there a good way to figure out what is wrong? Is it common for the AVCR solenoid to fall apart? Could it be my sparkplugs (BKR7e .028 1.5 years old 7k miles)? I do have a MBC and have long considered removing the AVCR in favor of it (GFB atomic)

If you want to live dangerously you could pull the line off the wastegate and see if you can hit a higher pressure. That will at least tell you whether or not it is a boost control issue. Just go easy with the throttle otherwise you could easily overboost and break something expensive.

Is there a safer way to go about testing it?

I'd see if it's mechanical problem first. Pull the line off the wastegate and see if you can get more boost first. Just be sure to clutch in and lift if it does make more. If you have a MBC that's a safer way to test.

Once you rule out a mechanical problem with the turbo or boost leak, you'll know it's the avcr.

You should be able to connect it to 12+ and ground and it should click if it's working.

I see. I do have an mbc, so is the way to test it remove the solenoid, install the MBC @ 1.3BAR and boost carefully?

How do i do the wastegate trick? Won't i just have a vacuum link if i disconnect the line between the WG and boost solenoid?

Are there any turbo telltale signs i should be looking for?

first thing that I would check and do is a boost leak test. No chance of hurting anything there, and if you find a leak, well that's it.

you can either put a screw into the vacuum line to plug it, or put a cap right on the bcs port.

it happened to me, it was that my stock ej20G coil packs went dead and there wasn't enough exhaust energy going to my turbine also td05h-16G

did you retest you wrx coil packs?

your bkr 7 should be ok if you were boosting at 1.3 and .028 if a nice gap (based on my skyline experience...)

Edit: Oh, did you make sure your WG rod was still attached... that also happened, it fell off 1st time after my coil conversion

Did a smoke test and found the problem. One of the PCV lines had fallen out of the KN intake elbow, so the car was letting metered air out of the system.

Thanks for the help!

:does a little jig:

I absolutely love it when it's a cheap easy fix like this.

Where can i find a vacuum diagram for a 1992 jdm wrx. I have 2 lines that are plugged with screws and i want to figure out what they are supposed to be. Im guessing that its because i have a k&n maybe they went to the air box or something
