Added some horsies under the hood

...and if you look closely, yea thats condensation in the left headlight
so I popped it back in the oven ans sealed up the lens seam with plenty of this:

Ill have to wait and see if I was successful

Also installed some hood pin lanyard cables. Its funny cuz I got these on ebay for $3.00 and when I noticed the packaging after opening the envelope they are the same ones autozone had on their shelf for $10.00

They were on all day, didnt feel em at all at first but they are really growing on me now:

Nah, these will do.
Wasnt looking to get a spendy set, just needed a better way to keep the hood down other than a zip tie...

Had a scary moment till I realized it was something stupid:
Got on the truway on my way home, hit 65 and ... SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP!
Then nothing. Drove to my exit paid the toll, pulled over got down on all fours and inspected everything, all seemed fine.
Pull back onto the main drag, hit 60 and SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP!!
Stopped at the light, turned right got to 60 and nothing
Stopped at the light, turned left got to 65 and SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP!!
Pulled in my garage perparing to lift the front up and take the wheels off to inspected everything and then it dawned on me ...
The hood pin lanyard was slapping against the hood/headlight/bumper

Also greased and lubed my door hinges, all the unused doors were stiff and my drivers door started squaking loudly today

Ok so I was definitely wrong. Something is very wrong with the car. I headed back out to grab some stuff, got on the parkway and got up to around 65. Started getting a Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump kinda like when you drive over a bridge and hit the steal cross piece thingys, the the SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP SLAP started in and as I came to the end of the parkway slowing to a stop there was some sort of hot smell ... maybe a hot metal smell I think, but Ive never smelled it before.

Turned back home after coming to a stop not getting over 40 and all seemed fine, except smelling the odd smell twice more.

I dont have time to look at it tonight but I have the weekend off so hopefully I can get this figured out before Monday

Ok so I think the slapping noise was just some damage to the under-tray in the front causing it to flap:

And since I already had the front up in the air and the drivers side tire off I decided to try to tackle that damn bracket again now that I bought a decent set of drill bits.
Broke half the smaller bits and burnt the tips to most the larger bits to no avail. So Im going to go ahead and just order a set of brackets for the front from a member over at rs25
Hopefully I can get em asap, Im paranoid driving with that bracket held on by 1 and 1/4 bolts

So the muggy heat today kept me down till:

By the time those kicked in all I had time to do was aim the headlights:

Cheap ebay headlights = cheap ebay cutoff. Im told however you can get into the projector assembly and modify the cutoff shield to a more sharper cutoff.

Then did some impromptu surgery:

Oil change today ... decided to jump on the T6 bandwagon

Then scanned my code, thinking I need to widen the spacer some more

Also got a ton of subie love out on the road today

Got a pair of front caliper brackets from a member over at rs25.com

Got to installing them and I think I figured out my sticky front drivers caliper situation. The rubber sleeve seems to have split and caused the slider pin to sit in the bracket rough

Installed:

Now I got worried as I went to put the wheels back on ... as I turned the wheel and the rotors spun there as a significant metal on metal grind. Not to be discouraged I continued on and cautiously took her for a drive, grinding sound went away after about 20 feet and the brakes feel fine.

I also opened up my O2 spacer a little more to 7/8 while I had the car jacked up, lets see if this does the trick

Annoying caliper is being annoying >:0

CEL popped back on, looks like Ill open the spacer up a bit more

Also noticed this today, you cant see the cracking straight on, but get at the right angle with the sun on the light and they light right up. Not sure if it was from baking/pulling them apart or if its just cheap plastic ... or both

So I picked up a bushing kit to fix the worn out bushing on that one caliper slider pin:

Got the new sleeve on the pin and everything seems much better with the pins, however as I went to put everything back together I saw the reason why my calipers have been making noise after the new brackets:

Apparently the reverse p# lookup I did was false, bc according to what I dug up these should fit all 04-05 imprezas

But I shrugged it off and got to work on the new extra outlet mod Ive been thinking up, to use those two oem outlets I picked up at the junkyard

Wiring looks crazy lol, I need to pick up some more butt connectors to finish it up

Decided the need to get everything kosher again for the front brakes was more important than waiting to come across a good deal on a set of 4pots, so I ordered a stock set. And set to work...
How they always come from rockauto,
cheap silver coating and covered in a oily film:

After a scotch brite session and some brakleen:

Two light coats and one heavy coat of VHT Gold caliper paint:

Subaru caliper decals:

The finished product after two light coats and one heavy coat of VHT caliper clear coat

So without the fog light inserts in my replacement bumper, you could see a lot of the rusted metal bits behind the bumper so I pulled it off today and hit all of it with some sprayable undercoating.
Also moved the horns and chirp thingy so you cant see them through the grille

Also made a bracket for my plate to mount it over the driver side opening, pass. side im going to use a fog light insert bezel for an air inlet (Props to the goldenfist for the idea)

Hey Keith, I'm looking to drop my 2005 2.5rs about 2 inches, what would you suggest be a good spring to get? And btw I'm just looking to get springs not the whole shock.

I'm curious... I'm looking to get into Subarus, why the RS instead of the WRX?

The rs is cheaper and the insurance is way cheaper, at least for me because I'm 18, but it is a little lacking in power but the handling is surprisingly awesome.

^^What he said. Basically if you can afford a WRX by all means get one. (dohc 2.0 turbo v.s sohc 2.5 non turbo) Other than the engine its basically the same car

Anyway, about lowering. Not too sure about springs, Im going with coilovers so ive only done research on those brands.
Eibach and Tein are always leading the spring market. Ive heard the name Swift thrown around on here as well.
And just so you know, in my personal opinion, if you have more than about 50k on the odo you should really get new struts as well. Stock struts arent made to ride low and will often blow when paired with lowering springs

If it's an 06+ it's a 2.5 turbo
