Default My 2.5RS Racecar Build

It's time has come. Now that it's not my DD anymore and with 290K on it. It's time to turn the RS into a racecar. I am targeting SCCA Improved Touring S with a future move to Super Touring U. Already far along with the stripping of the interior of the car. Just need to get the sound proofing off the floor and we will start prepping for the mount points for the cage.
I'll post pics and updates as I go. My cage will be done by the same guy who did Okiedude's cage in his wagon with almost the same layout.
BTW, if anyone needs any interior, aircon or any part I maybe removing. I am selling them.

Got all the floor sound deadening out today except for the trunk area. Get that next weekend. Also got the moon roof assemble out. Got the door part off and put it back without of the other mess. Man, the door itself is 12 lbs. Need to see if I can use some lighter material in place of it.
Next weekend, finish the trunk, and start prepping the cage mount points.

Pat's still in Tulsa. His car is at my shop in OKC, he comes down on the weekends and works on it here. I've got 7,000 sq. ft. private automotive shop for us to play in.

Yep, and the fact I am building it for IT, I can still run it in SP but with the stock size wheel only.

The wheel is momo with a Daikei S-501 STEERING BOSS and I think it's a NRG quick release. The Daikei bolts right up with no mods. Comes with the wiring for the horn and airbag cancellation resistor that plugs right into the factory wiring.

Pat,

How are you mounting the sunroof panel? My '98 RS is at the cage builders right now and the only thing I can think of is to either make some brackets that tie the studs from the panel to the studs from the roof where the assembly was mounted, or just use seam sealer to glue the panel to the roof (trying to avoid welding it in).

Can't you guys just replicate that sunroof panel in aluminum? It's pretty damn heavy.

The rules in Improved Touring, no. I have to keep the original panel. I can clamp or weld it in place. Now, Super Touring, it's probably a different story.

I was going to use the studs on the bottom off the panel and take some aluminum bar stock and clamp it in place since there is a lip for the panel to rest on. Plus you some RTV to seal it too the roof so it don't leak.

This thing looks promising, quick question, is that green car in the back ground going to be a hot rod? Just curious. Also, SUBSCRIBED. This is going to turn out really nice.

Okiedude collects old racers. It's an old dirt track. He's got some other cool stuff. I'll let him talk about them if he wants.
