I got you, I have soft spot for older vehicles, trying to import my grandpas old Volga gaz21 from Slovakia to the US.

None the less have you made more progress on you track car? Also, what color is your Impreza?

Na, took last weekend off to take it east and rest up a sort foot. Plus we had our region awards dinner Saturday night. The car is Blue Ridge Pearl.

Got a bit more done last weekend. All the sound deadening is out now. Started prepping the floor and rear shock towers to get ready to weld in plate on the mounting points.

Found some unwanted stuff inside the rear quarter panels......RUST!

Here is how the interior looks as it sits now.

I was going to use the studs on the bottom off the panel and take some aluminum bar stock and clamp it in place since there is a lip for the panel to rest on. Plus you some RTV to seal it too the roof so it don't leak.
Are you allowed to strip off the sunroof panel framing so that you are only left with the skin?
If you can do that, then that would eliminate most of it's weight.

Mark

PS: I got some P90X vids that would help you eliminate 40-60lbs of dead weight and you wouldn't even need to touch the car. LOVE YA BRO!

No photos today but weighed the car and removed some more out of the car. Right now with the dash thrown back with with the driver seat and other needed parts. 2473 lbs. Add about 100lbs for the cage and myself. I am getting closer to my min weight at 2660lbs. I got a few more places to drop weight easily.

IMO pull as much weight as you can and then add what you need to in the footwell of the rear seats.

if you can't reduce it you can still move it right?

Wish my wagon was that light! I think you + cage will be more than 100lbs., unless you went on one hell of a workout program in the last two weeks-LOL!

Getting started

Took the heater core out of the heat and air unit to use with the dash to have a defroster in case of a wet race or I am at a cold event. I'll have some shut off valves for the hot days when I don't need it.

Main hoop and rear down tubes all done. They were going to finish welding up the hoop last night. They are going to start on the A pillars, door bars and halo tomorrow.

Why did you choose to make your own cage rather than get a kit? I imagine there are some decent kits out there for the gc no?

I think because he wants a "Real" cage, and he has access to one of the best cage building duos in the Southwest.

You guys do understand that you can also get pre bent/cut kits right? Something like this: http://www.customcages.co.uk/Rollcag...ype=Int%20GrpN

That takes all of the bending and majority of the cutting out. Just cut to fit, notch, and be done with it. If you wanna build your own that's cool, I was just curious why you would do that as it's usually much more labor intensive

That British kit is no bargain by the time you factor in freight/exchange rate and you still have to pay someone to do all the Tig/Mig welding. The welding portion is really more labor intensive. When you have the proper tubing notcher/bender/ protractor/levels/CNC plasma cutter; bending and cutting the actual components is not too bad. Plus they can walk 50 ft. across the shop floor and use my cage as a pattern (which these buys built also).

I want the cage built in a certain way. Mainly to the rules I am going to run under. It can only be 8 points and can't tie into the chassic on the pillars or floor except for the 8 point. Plus you can't trust these pre made cages to fit right.
