Default Idaho question

Wife and I are thinking of moving to Idaho. We hate our state and its communists..
I want 4 seasons and small town. (I used to live In the mountains in a small town inNZ and loved it...she is starting to want to get away from the big city...so 40,000 people and less city population is what we are looking for...me...15k and less)
Anyways... She is a nurse and looking for a hospital and once she gets a job lined up we are moving..
That's the short plan... The long plan involves finding an area to live (I want land to own, hills trees and water if possible) she starts looking for a job. Once she gets that lined up we rent a place and sell our house here...then look to buy out there. Max 300k....

I'm med retired so I am the easy part.

What are smog laws like out there? Bringing the subie of course, but I also have a 65 mini...

Boise aside, you can buy a freaking huge ass house for 300k. No smog laws (except for Ada County - again, Boise).

The biggest cities are Boise, Idaho Falls, and Pocatello. Other than Boise, IF and Pocatello are probably 50k in population. But it's a huge state with a lot of different choices for the type of city you want to live in. I guess just start looking at hospitals in the area and start narrowing it down. Just keep in mind that you could spend an entire day of driving and still be in the same state in a lot of cases.

Also, it's fairly easy to live a few miles outside of the city and still be close enough to commute. It might add an extra 15 minutes but it's totally doable.

Moscow, Idaho is a great little community with a big city feel. There is a new hospital being built there that will most likely be looking for employees. No smog testing, housing market is good too.

Yes to Cour d' Alene, beautiful and is not only close to everything Idaho you want, it's big enough to have jobs and those things a city is good for.

Moscow is another beautiful area and has a lot to offer.

Northern Idaho is much nicer than southern Idaho imo. Boise and IF are more desert and windy all the time.

Bosie is nothing like IF. Much better climate.

The winters in N Idaho are much more brutal than they are here, just sayin.

In Ada county you will have to do an emissions test every few years. Just plug in the obdii with a visual.

I second this....CdA and the surrounding area is awesome. I've kept my eye on real estate in the area, and you can get a TON of house for ~3$00k in that area.

Default Idaho Livin

I have lived in Idaho for going on 20 years and can honestly say anything outside of Boise will be a great call. I currently live in Sun Valley(Ketchum specifically)(pop. 3500 in K-town, 1k in SV) and cant think of anywhere else I would rather be. It is a moderate tourist area with plenty of paved/dirt roads for fun driving. Hope this helps.
