Question 2003 EJ251 Baja, Open Source Tune?

I dont beleive so, but can i buy a cable and use say romraider or a simiar program to tune my 2003 baja? NA ej251. i dont beleive so but im curious as to what my options are for Engine Management and Tuning. done with basic bolt ons (i/h/e, grounding, rsb, endlinks, etc) and no money for swap and the 251's rods are toothpicks, so no aftermarket boost. can i get an open source tune (i have a very reputable tuner in my area, cameron from camtuning) or do i have to invest in some form of piggy back, and if so, what would u recommend? not going for crazy NA power build, just my daily driver/weekend autoX car and i want a little more response and power than what i have now.

As far as I know, most the common reflashing options will not work on the Naturally aspirated cars with a cable throttle body. There were a few companies that reflashed ECUs for the naturally aspirated cars, in fact i think Crawford still offers it for the N/A imprezas. But you have to send the ECU in and have it done as there is no simple way to do it with a cable. A reflash alone really wont give you many gains on its own like it will on the turbo cars. You are probably better off doing things like cams and full exhaust and then seeing if you can get it reflashed or a standalone because that will give you the most gains.

well right now i have a full catback, with 2.25" midpipe to 2.5" axleback, borla reps, COBB (PRM) Intake, and P. Fab grounding kit. what would be money best spent: lw pulley setup, Delta 1500's. or Tsudo UEL with trackpipe? Money best spent=im a poor ass college student lol and this is my commuter.

If this is your only car to get around, I would not go into the engine because you will lose reliability. Like it was mentioned before, N/A's are limited and especially a Baja, even worse. Our cars are being modded because our homework trying to find common ground with other subaru platforms so in my opinion, if you don't have the serious loot to make it tiny but tiny faster, leave the Baja with all the goodies that it has. Maybe adding LW pulley would give some pull but your never getting some serious HP's without a turbo. If you had a turbo, then you would be concerned about MPG's like I do so enjoy your baja with regular fuel and no tuning concerns in back of your head. I know I am not telling nothing new but I figured I'd give my 2 cents.

^^ no anything helps! i suppose il stick with suspension modifications. barely leave 2nd gear in autoX anyways with there was an inexpensive drop solution... anyways. prob will buy lw pulley. also might upgrade my reps to the new tsudo UEL trackpipe setup. $250 is a good deal for that. anyone know of any cheap lowering options? always curious if 2002 legacy gt wagon struts and springs would work.... same weight about.

You could put the GT suspension on, also remove the body spacers. The outbacks and bajas have spacers between the body and the subframes to give a small (about 1") body lift in addition to the taller suspension.

Subaru did several things when they lifted the outback/baja. They added body spacers to the front and rear subframes and trans mount to give it a body lift. When they did this they also had to change to a different joint where the steering column meets the rack (its a bit longer).

They then added longer spring/strut assemblies. The outback/baja struts actually have the spring perch mounted a little higher as well. This helps keep the geometry similar on the now lifted body as well as adds a bit of a suspension lift.

They then put a taller tire on the outbacks and bajas (might be part of the reason they lift the body.)

To properly lower it to standard legacy/ GT height, just undo everything they did and swap it for legacy parts. instead of spacers the legacy just had washers with shorter bolts, these can be had from a dealer. Just get a used transmission crossmember from a legacy and swap it in as well as the steering shaft and springs/struts. If you go to the Legacy GT sized tire/wheel combo (might have to for clearance) keep in mind the speedo might be off.

Most of these parts can be had really cheap if you buy them used.

I actually had asked Narenj about the setup he had on his Baja and he still had it in his garage and I bought it for a price I couldn't pass up He left the spacers in it, I will also.
I did the same on my outback with STI struts/springs under it and it worked out well, and aligned easily
