i agree with doobis. there is no reason any of us should have to worry about these glass pistons. honestly if i knew about this before i bought my wrx last year, i probably wouldve gotten a prius, lol.

Yes, but it is clearly proven that Sti's have had (way) more ringland failures than WRX's. I don't know why but, it is more common among the Sti's.

What's your data set? Numbers from Subaru (normalized for sales volumes)? Or just a few posts on the internet? It's pretty easy to get skewed data when your sample is only a very, very small fraction of the total population. I don't see any reason why one would have more failures than the other.

god this is spit out as a reply so many times. it seems to be more then just a few. There are a bunch of threads all over. The best part is how useless Subaru is over it. if someone blows and car is bone stock they will still try and not honor the warranty. I have read a bunch of those types of things happen..they do whatever they can to point the blame at you even if its not your fault. Junk cars and a Junk company it seems. I never had a car buying regret but I do with this one..big time. I will keep it for a year then trade it in.

Took my '11 and met up with a friend of mine in upstate NY the other weekend, had some fun. Played around with a couple of the pictures and made them HDR. Also got some good footage using the GoPro

I hardly think that a huge population of 3 forums is a small sample data set. As a matter of fact I think it's a great sample set. Iwsti has countless threads on the comparison of ringland failure of Sti's and Wrx's it is simply a fact that engine failure from ringland failure is more common in Sti's. Thousands of members from Nasioc are comprised of both Wrx's and Sti's, iwsti has mostly sti's, and 3gwrx has mostly wrx's. Do you know how many people (whom almost all have stage 2 or more) on 3gwrx have had ringland failure? I don't even think enough to count on two hands. Granted it's a small forum, but it reflects the subaru population pretty well. 80% of WRX's and Sti's are modified, how many of them do you think have a memvership on a subaru forum? Probably most of them. I'm not saying Wrx's motors don't fail, I'm just saying it's usually not ringland failure. I wish I could find the 5 or so 10+ page threads I found when I had a ringland failure scare, and they all at (atleast) 1 point mentioned it was more common in Sti's.

wow never thought about putting the attachment directly on there like that. Mine came off my helmet once on the lift when i went boarding, mainly cause I only gave it about 12 hours to dry.

WRX has an EJ255, STi uses the EJ257. I thought for sure the pistons were slightly different between the two engines, but nevertheless they use different engines, though verrrryy similar.

didn't want to quote the pic but did to stress this point: go see a premium PDR guy before you get a body shop to touch that. if there is an exotic marque dealer in your area, go see them and ask them who they use for PDR - not all of those guys are the same, just like anything, search one out and get his opinion first and foremost.

I bought the motorsport model and it came with the suction cup. I'm just worried it will lose suction and fall off going 100+, the adhesive seems really strong and will give a consistent camera angle for all shots. And I let it sit on the windshield for a good 4 days, a couple of those days were 80+ so it really bake on there. I'm not worried it will fall off.

Subaru uses Go Pro on their rally cars during the races. So you shouldn't have a problem if put on properly.

Valid point. I figured I would use the adhesive for more security (perhaps for my sanity?) and also less moving parts that may cause more vibration in the video.

I was told the same thing by an actual body shop owner. He said it's really not worth it for us to do this. A good PDR guy can get that out and it'll look like it was never there so i did some searching and found a guy, he's coming friday to remove that ding. I don't even wanna drive my car right now every time i see it i get upset. Still can't believe ppl do that **** and take off.
