Yeah, they got in a bad batch and tried to play them off as normal. Did yours actually come with pipes that fit? Some of them came with the normal pipes.

they do light up the road so you can see little animals running near the car and road debris better, they are for that and style basically so I see no point in shutting them off
Lighting up the road near the car actually lessens your perception of objects further away from the car.

Quote:
In clear conditions, more foreground light is not a good thing, it's a bad thing. Some foreground light is necessary so you can use your peripheral vision to see where you are relative to the road edges, the lane markings and that pothole 10 feet in front of your left wheels. But foreground light is far less safety-critical than light cast well down the road into the distance, because at any significant speed (much above 30 mph), what's in the foreground is too close for you to do much about. If you increase the foreground light, your pupils react to the bright, wide pool of light by constricting, which in turn substantially reduces your distance vision—especially since there's no increase in down-the-road distance light to go along with the increased foreground light. It's insidious, because high levels of foreground light give the illusion, the subjective impression, of comfort and security and "good lighting".
From http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...fog_lamps.html

It also basically doubles the amount of glare coming off your car that oncoming drivers have to deal with.

Don't be a dick. Turn your fog lights off when you're not driving in heavy fog or snowfall.

I have the same kit from FMS my cooler was upside down as Well. My pipes did fit perfect though actually I think that it probably fits better than if the pipes where on top. The only thing I did not like and actually changed was which side the hot side pipe was I cut both pipes and swapped them around so that the hot side Turbo pipe was on the opposite side of the intake. This actually made a drastic difference on intake temps. And look much better IMOP looks just like the PERRIN kit , with red pipes and black core. This would probably not work for the wrx but you can work it pretty easy on the STI setup

My fogs are on all the time. I rewired the DRL's to be the fog lights instead of the high beams.

I think they got new pipes so that they could sell all the incorrectly manufactured cores.

That layout is the one reason to the FMS instead of the Perrin. You made it so the "cold" side of the pipe runs directly over the hot turbo before going into the motor. The standard TurboXS/FMS layout keeps the cooled air as cool as possible.

Lower intake temps that you saw are not benefiting you, because those temps are before the turbo and intercooler. You actually raised the temps of the air going into the motor. Having slightly higher IAT's with the hot pipe next to the intake can be accounted for in the tune, it's really just an indicator. Hotter air actually going into the motor is bad news.

People modify the Perrin setup to have counter clockwise flow for a reason, it is getting colder air to the motor. Taking a proper setup and making it goes backwards is so counter productive.

oh wow daniel stern lighting said so on an antiquated website...must be true. OEM fogs are not that bright and pretty much just there for looks, they don't really do anything in fog so I guess you better go on a crusade to have all WRX OEM fogs uninstalled. They are lighting up the ground so I don't see why they would create more glare for oncoming drivers. I've never been blinded by dim OEM fogs in oncoming traffic

I think it looks better than the stock DRL's. I've never liked the look of high beams as DRL's, not to mention the harm it causes to the bulb by running it at low output. If Subaru had made a low beam DRL or LED DRL's I probably wouldn't have changed it. I see the logic behind cars requiring DRL's so I didn't want to disable them all together.

with all of this fog light talk...

are there any bulbs out there that match the look of the HIDs? I don't care so much about brightness, but I hate that the fogs and HIDs don't match.

You are correct. I had exhaust finishers but took them off and had them powder coated gloss black. Just picked them up today. We'll see how it looks...

Installed my winter setup today. What do you guys think? I wasn't sure what color and style of wheels look good on a Plasma Blue, so I went with some black ones. ( they were cheap :P ) They came last night from TireRack.com
