Killer B Motorsport Header would survive Mount Doom!
So the UPS elf dropped off a box for me today and it contained a new header. First off it was packaged prepared for nuclear war. Bubble wrap, those inflated air pocket thingies, and about 900 sq ft of that plastic wrap. The contents would survive a drop from the Empire State Building for sure. Someone obviously gives a damn about packaging.
First impression is this thing is built like a whore! I've handled in my day about 984 different headers. This is the king. I don't know the actual weight, but it isn't too much lighter than the stock unit as the tubing is thick as crap! Even without OCD packaging, this would surely survive a fall from the Empire State Building. All the internal welds are ground down so as not to disturb internal flow. Or at least that's how I read it. I'm not Johnny Welder, but based on my poor training and Internet Engineer Certification***8482;, I'd say the welding is spot on. Another thing to consider is this is the only header on earth that is 100% 321 Stainless Steel. What does this mean? It's a bomb-proof header. It has a lifetime warranty. You can coat and/or wrap it and it won't affect warranty coverage. And it is made in the USA! It's not cheap, but it should be one of the few car parts that you will never have to ever worry about. It also comes with an uppipe with a V-band joint, so that should crush any leak situations that are prevalent in other uppipes/headers. This is just a physical review.....performance and sound review should be added in post #2 in about 2 weeks or so.

Shipping weight is 17 pounds for the setup so the header/up-pipe should be ~16 pounds. OEM is ~25 pounds Thanks for choosing our product, the write-up, and looking forward to more posts!

I have wood (or steel).
Big Ron, will you be coating or wrapping it? Why or why not? What is your purpose for buying this item? Yes, seriously. Cost not withstanding, there are many options out there and so why buy this one? |

Full wrap thread for these or other header is here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2303664 I was going to have them coated with the (in my opinion) best coating which is Swaintech, but it was going to be like $300. So I went with the (in my opinion) best wrap and did the whole shebang for right around $70. My purpose is that when nuclear war came, I wanted to see cockroaches and my header left over. And I was super curious to see if this would quiet down my car (dB testing will follow once installed). And since this is a no messing around equal length, I wanted to getter better low end response. And the dude that makes these lives within punch him in the face range (one hour from me). And these are 100% American made (this becomes more important as I get older and codgier). And the dude that makes these is a NASIOC vendor (another important item for me). And all kidding aside, those are my legitimate reasons as 98% of my purchases have a muliti-layered rational. |

Thanks for the feedback Ron.
I had been eyeballing this header since it debuted and am just that much closer to pulling the trigger on one. Some things are a relative no-brainer to purchasing and some are not due to a lack of relatively good information being available. Little steps are what I can take right now. P.S: with regard to the wrap, what brand did you use. I see clamps on each pipe-end holding the wrap in place. Did you also coat them with whatever spray is sometimes used or no; the wrap and clamps are enough? Thanks again. |

Install date (unless it gets moved up) will be March 2nd, with tuning on the 3rd. dB measurements before and after for sure. Video before and after strong possibility, though not 100% sure.

I see that you can opt to have this header coated with Swain Tech Coating.
Price not withstanding, is this a good coating and versus wrapping? Do I need a retune? Do I have to relocate the oil-filter cooler (2006 WRX)? As always, thanks! |

If coating is not an option, we do recommend the same wrap Unabomber is using; DEI Titanium. Anytime the engine's efficiency is changed a retune is a good idea, as this will keep the A/F ratios where they need to be and provide maximum power gains. Given the increases in volumetric efficiency provided by the header, you will certainly see leaner A/F readings in open loop without a tune. No relocation of the oil filter/cooler is required.
