Have a Nice Day? Rattle/whine coming from ac blower motor... I think?

Hello friends!

About a month ago I started to notice some funky noises coming from my passenger side whenever I turned on the AC regardless if I turned the pump on or not. After a bit of detective work, I've isolated the origin of the noise to the blower motor below the glove box. The noise varies with temperature, usually when I start my car in the frigid cold (VT resident, represent!) and kick on the fans, it will be a high pitched whining noise. As the car warms up, the noise changes to a low pitched rattle. Turning the fans off I can hear the blower motor sort of grinding to a halt.

My question for you fine folks is what should be my next step? Should I replace the blower motor, or could it be a bad fan bearing that might just need some lube action? I also read it could be something to do with resistors for the blower motor. On the other hand, I could also be completely wrong about the blower motor being the issue... could these noises be caused by a dying compressor? Everything is working perfectly fine, the noise is just driving me crazy

From what I've read having never done this before, removing the blower motor is as simple as removing a couple screws although I understand one to be a big pain in the ass. I figure I'll get to our shop in the next couple of days and rip it out, give it power and see what happens.... if that sounds like a good idea

Thank you for any input
John

Moved to a more appropriate place.
This may be as simple as leaves or other crap having gotten into the blower fan. Stuff in there can make a huge racket. Pull the glovebox, remove the cabin air filter if there is one (although if a filter is present it prevents anything from getting into the fan), then you can look down into the fan housing and see what's in there. If necessary the blower can then be dropped to clean it all out.

Thanks for the move & reply, sorry for posting in the wrong section! I'm going to pull the blower tonight or sometime this week depending on my schedule and take a closer look. I appreciate the input!
