Default Jaguar plots hot XFR-S

http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsAr...llCars/261176/

Quote:
Jaguar is to seriously considering a hotter ‘S’ version of the Jaguar XFR super saloon. Senior company insiders admit that the 503bhp XFR is “a bit outgunned” by new rivals such as the 552bhp BMW M5 and 549bhp Mercedes E63 AMG, and Jaguar plans to retaliate with the introduction of a faster and more focused range-topping model that will be badged XFR-S.
The ‘R-S’ moniker has already been established on the recently launched Jaguar XKR-S, and sources admit that they are likely to “give the XFR the same treatment.”

No specific details are known, but expect firmer chassis settings, more aggressive styling and exhaust note, plus a power upgrade to bring the output of the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 up to around 550bhp. The car was spied in testing at the Nurburgring last summer.

As the range-topping model, the XFR-S will cost at least £5k more than the standard XF, which is likely to continue to be sold just as the standard XKR is still sold beneath the XKR-S. The premium would put the hottest XF at over £70k – very close in price to its key rivals.

A buddy of mine bought a base XF and it is wonderful to drive. Great sounds form that V8. I wish Jag luck!

I’ve driven a 2010 supercharged, nice car, not a fan of the dash and the rear seat room seemed just as tight as my STI. I enjoyed the performance, sound and heated steering wheel.

Only thing I dislike about the new jag's are their dated engines and terrible pwr/Liter. If they could be more competitive in that department, I think they would have a better market share. They keep knocking it out in terms of looks though.

550bhp. . . Jag needs to bump it to the 600bhp mark. Make the CTSV its benchmark.

Whoopppieeee.... another bit-player 500-unit special, as if XF-R isn't fantastic enough.

BUILD THE FX16 coupe... the production model of the CX-16.

Standard with the DOHC 6-cylinder, optional hybrid booster.
FX-16R version with the supercharged V8 from the XFR and XKR and XJR, with the big brakes, again, optional with the hybrid boost system.

For the love of all that is holy, offer it with a manual 6-speed and alternative dual-clutch gearbox. If you REALLY do it right... with the gearbox as a transaxle between the rear wheels, to balance the car's weight distribution.

Then make an achingly gorgeous roadster out of it, too.

Offer the car in Kyanite Blue, with either a darker blood red, or stone grey interior. A bit brighter blue, but sort of like this classic Jag XK120.

All of this is 100% correct.

I agree with everything except the hybrid booster nonsense, and I do not find that black roadster achingly beautiful...More art deco sophisticated.

When I think of an aching beautiful roadster, the XKE comes to mind. Quite possibly the most beautiful car ever made.

I mean it is just impossible to improve on.

I disagree, SCRAPPY.. that's a much better car when it has a fixed roof.

The hybrid booster stuff is what the CX-16 was showcasing... I want them to make it optional, so I don't HAVE to have it. they can leave it off, that is fine with me, I just don't want them to mandate it.

E convertibles are more achingly beautiful, and there is more E-type DNA in the CX-16 than older C, D, or XK120...

I was simply posting the XK120, not for the styling per se, but for the color combo. Deep blue, with a darker red interior.

An FX-16 production car, turned into a roadster, would look much more like an E roadster, than an XK120... just by the lines that the CX-16 concept is showing.

It is funny you say that.

When I see the E-type race cars like this..

And like this...

I have to agree, that looks just stunning..

But when I see this..

It just does not work for me nearly as much...

Hip, I agree, that CX16 has a lot of E-type in it. Jag makes some amazingly beautiful cars.

I love those colors. That is a fantastic color blue, and the red is a nice set-off, and they are my favorite colors, in that order.

even more... I love the wire wheel url decal above a torque-thrust style "mag" wheel in the wheel well.

But the dunlop knock-off alloys on the ivory E-type racer are the business.

I am a big fan of the hard tops and the hardtop on convertibles. . . and the headlights up to '67.

When my mom was picking up an XKR in '00 (for an '01) I pushed hard for her to go for a hard top over a convertible. Jaguars look so much better with a roof.
