Default V7 sti engine into bugeye

Hey am new to the Subaru game but I have an 2002 wrx with just the tranny no engine. I got a really good deal on a version 7 jdm swap but not including the ecu.

Am having a hard time finding a ecu which I think is the 6a correct me if am wrong but my question is. Is there and alternative ecu I can use if I can't find the version7 ecu and am going to buy a clutch kit but am going to use my 5 speed tranny do I have to get an sti clutch kit or regular wrx..

Does anyone have a guide for doing this swap and what other parts I need or is it a plug n play swap.

Thanks in advance any information would help.

The JDM V7 2.0 liter is a direct plug and play into a USDM bugeye from everything that I have seen so far. If you want to run AVCS then you will need to purchase a wiring kit from IA performance. I'm planning to do this swap later this year, but to include the 6-speed. With that being said, I can only quote from what I have found on this forum through lots of searching. The EJ207 owners thread is a great place to find information about this swap. Its quite a few pages, but at parts it contains gems of information from people that have actually performed this swap (what timing belt to use, clutch, ECU info, plugs, etc..). I have read that a few people are running a stock USDM WRX ECU, and then have had a tuner work it out, but its more often they use the JDM ECU. Keep an eye on the 'for sale' forums, or call one of the vendors that imports JDM parts. There are at least 3 or 4 in the 'vendors' forum. Keep in mind that no matter which route you choose, you will need a good tune. The JDM ECU is designed for higher octanes than are readily available in the US, and if you run the lower octanes it can/will knock. Clark Tuner is also in the 'vendor' section, and he seems to know his stuff when it comes to tunes and what can be done with an ECU, or the JDM setup in general. I hope this was helpful, but I also hope it encourages you to search the forums more for the information.
