Default Anchorage Barista Abducted / Kidnapped / Found Dead!

This is the real deal folks. I don't know her or her family but this is scary stuff. Please keep an eye out as you're traveling around town.

http://www.adn.com/2012/02/03/229837...r-missing.html

Anchorage police say surveillance video shows that a man kidnapped 18-year-old Samantha Koenig at the Midtown coffee stand where she was finishing up work Wednesday night.

The armed man walked to the Common Grounds Espresso stand on Tudor Road near Gambell Street about 8 p.m. Wednesday and forced Koenig to leave with him on foot, headed east toward the Old Seward Highway, said Detective Slawomir Markiewicz.

The turquoise coffee stand with purple trim sits in the parking lot of the Alaska Club at 630 E. Tudor Road. A large snow berm makes it difficult to see from Tudor Road.

Markiewicz would not say what type of weapon police think the man carried or how he entered the coffee hut, but there's "little doubt" that Koenig's disappearance was anything other than an abduction, the detective said. That's based on Koenig's demeanor and the man's actions, as seen in the video, Markiewicz said.

"The video's pretty compelling," he said.

Police did not release a detailed description of the man Friday, other than saying he appeared to be wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and possibly a baseball cap. Koenig is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. Markiewicz said the man was significantly taller than her.

Koenig's boyfriend, Dwayne, planned to pick up Koenig sometime after her shift ended at 8 p.m., said James Koenig, her father. Markiewicz said the boyfriend was delayed by work.

the police need to release any details about the man they have. though I doubt its much. its cold, dark and sounds like the guy hid his appearance well.

funny how ADN just did an article on the bikinni barista and now we got a kidnapping.

young girls should not be working alone in this city in dark hard to see places like this one was. poor girl. hope they find her safe and well... though chances are it will likely be the other way around.

This/\+2. I hope they find her safe and it won't break my heart if they need to "neutralize" the guy who did this in the process.

had a stack of flyers dropped off at my work place earlier. wouldn't mind hanging up a few.

sad thing is... this is either a scam and she left with someone she knew and it was made to look like an abduction/robbery...

or she's not going to be found until the snow melts in the spring... not a nice thing to say but its reality. cute looking 18yr old taken... most preds don't keep their victims when they are done. odds of her locked up in someone's basement are slim.

according to new news and video surveillance looks like she was kidnapped at gunpoint.

bottom line, NEVER go quietly, weapon or no weapon. Most perps will run if you make a scene and scream, kick and RUN LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! It's been almost a week since her disappearance. It's highly unlikely she will be returned without harm or foul play. and even if she is, chances are she won't be without major damage to her physically and emotionally. Sad sad sad. I hope they find the bastard who took her. Until then, we keep looking and remain hopeful for her family and friends sake. Be safe out there people!

Yeah, we have been thinking about this as well. There are a few things in the mix that make you wonder if it wasn't a scam.

While it is sad, I actually HOPE it is a scam, that way at least, we know she is alive. For we all know the longer someone goes missing the less their chances there are of them being found.

One thing I don't understand, and perhaps it is not possible, but if there was video footage of the kidnapper, WHY hasn't APD given at least SOME descriptor? Approximate height, weight, what he (or she) was wearing, glasses, beard, walked with a limp, etc.. Something to help those looking keep an eye out.

As far as posting the video... according to the police they can't actually see the guy's face. As for what he was wearing, its doubtful he's still wearing those clothes.

They have already interviewed the guy she had the restraining order pending against but cleared him.

other issue is as far as weight and height, hard to tell when the guy is bundled up. I bet he was just a regular customer. stopped in every day like a lot of people do, learned her schedule and knew when to return.

True on him (or her) not wearing the same clothes now, but for the public to help, aside from being in the parking lot at the time, there isn't too much to go on or look for.

Was any money taken? Was the shop locked or left unlocked when they left. Were any of her personal effects left behind, purse, wallet, cell phone. Was she wearing a jacket when she left. What was the elapsed time from the arrival of the kidnapper to the departure. Was there any signs of a struggle in the shop?

From what I've read, there was money taken, although there were no signs of struggle inside, only a couple coffee's were left as if she got interrupted making them. (one story made it one drink, the other alluded to multiple drinks) The shop was more or less closed with doors and windows locked/shut. However most all her personal effects were left there.

Well... not to be a debbie downer but at this point the likelyhood she's still tied up in some perv's basement is unlikely. this whole thing is a sly of hand and she's left the state... (best idea) or she's dead and its only a matter of time before a dumped body is found. rumor was over the weekend a body had been found but APD has denied those rumors.

How quickly could the airlines be notified if someone is reported missing? Or even border patrols? I doubt she could fly out of here undetected. There'd be a record of that, I would think.

I would like to think airlines could be notified rather quickly in these instances. The problem however, is usually the "whens" of that notification being sent out. IF 24 hours or better from the time she went missing, They couldve already flown to their destination. But yes, there should be a trace to go on IF she boarded a plane.

If she were "kidnapped", I find it hard to believe that she could get by airline employees or security without someone noticing her behavior which should be noticeably terrified or something like that.

If she is out of the state, it would have to be by road or ferry and even there, getting across the Canadian border legally would most likely be thwarted without a passport.

On the other hand, riding the AMHS ferry from an Alaskan port to Bellingham, WA does not require a passport. And there again, over several days travel, someone would have to have seen something suspicious if she were truly abducted.

Well she could have faked the abduction. had someone she knew show up hiding his identity. easy enough with a hoody. Take all the cash cause its what you use to travel undetected and flee to the canadian border at night? She could have been across the border before the cops were notified she was missing at noon the next day. Taking into consideration the border between canada and alaska isn't that tight... it would have been easy to slip through. They don't search your car usually and she could have hidden in it under a blanket. No passport required.

When I heard about this I thought to my self that if she somehow still had her cell on her they could easily track her. Then conflicting reports were made on what of her belongings were left behind. Her best friend is a friend of mine and she hasnt heard anything new at all.

Her father apparently killed her cell battery by calling it over and over. I do not see how nobody thought anything looked suspicious at the time of the abduction. I drove past that shop several times lately and cannot fathom how nobody noticed a girl being escorted away against her will.

I honestly think at this time she is either in canada or somewhere out of state and this was planned OR her body is in the woods somewhere. Which up here in Alaska is a great way to dispose of one knowing what kind of wildlife is here.

I think they trimmed the snow down over there? I do remember it being higher before this whole incident.

Any current news on this? I even looked on ADN and it seems to be old stuff from last week. It's not looking too good.

I drove by there Friday night on the way out of town and there are still some huge snow berms that make it hard to even see the stand from Tudor, and I was in a Ford truck that sits up pretty high, it would be impossible to see from a car. I thought they'd cleared it, but it needs attention again already.
